Camping Ideas and Tips

@d_m_m Meaco 260c, £35 from John Lewis or 2 for about £50 off Amazon. Runs really quietly with decent airflow. Also has a small light so obeys the two uses rule.

I've got this one, its ace - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BYDQGRQW

Will run indefinitely with a USB C input which is great if you have a powerbank or other input. Very adjustable, is a powerbank, has a light and a timer mode

Side benefit - clips onto a brolly so you can get out of the sun and into a breeze if it's hot (did this at a very hot motorsport event, was a lifesaver!)

Hi all,

Any recommendations for rechargeable usb fans as we have no air con and driving through France this summer.

TIA
When we went to France we bought one of these (for in the van at night)
FANCYWING Portable Desk Fan,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09XMPKBLL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And 2 of these (for the kids in the awning):
Camping Fan with LED... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B14TSVD1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Brought the big one away with us to Italy (not camping, in my case). Works well but the kids seemed happy with their smaller ones

Just to note from another thread if you're missing your breakfast toast you can make pretty good toast in a frying pan.

Use a medium ish heat and flip a few times. Once you get used to how your pan and burner work you can do it dead easy.

Tip I learned from a relative that ran a B&B from the Aga and did all the toast on the Aga plate.

Also a tip having dug the trailer out for a bit of extra security when camping on grass:

I have a long ground anchor and bike D lock that once the trailer is parked up and wheel lock on I can wind into the ground and then lock the D lock over the draw bar. Other times I wind it in by the wheel that doesn't have the lock on and use the cable lock through the wheel.

Will it make like Fort Nox, no. But you're not pulling that ground anchor out and if you lock it so it's not easy to turn it's going to add to the time taken to nick the trailer.

That one's just a very cheap generic one from the local independent DIY clearance place - it's job is to stop things sliding into the roller shutter and jamming things.

Maybe the wrong thread for this question but...

Does anyone know what the proper name for these types of hinge / ally plate is? I've tried all sorts of variation of scissor hinge, folding leg, parallel, offset etc and I just can't find anything that looks like the one in the photo / what we have on our table.

Thanks.

Similar, looks like you could make some from some flat plate cut to shape.
Yeah it seems to be used in a few tables but I can't find just the component on its own. Was fearing I may have to DIY it.

It's coming to the end of the camping season for 2024.

So let's see those camping hacks and tips from this year's outings.

Already looking forward to the 2025 events.

At Summer Camp this year we were treated to an impromptu fashion parade/catwalk display of Dryrobe and 'others' hosted by @Dellmassive and the magical Lisa. Wifey and I tried on all the available offerings on show and (she) decided we preferred the 'Red Original' brand. Felt fluffier and warmer to us(her)!
When we returned home our Fairy Godmother (the mother in law) waved her magic wand (well, her debit card) and low and behold we now are the proud owners of 2 black Reds! They are housed in a draw string bag which sucks the air from the pack and they take up very little space in the van. We got 15% NHS/Bluelight discount from the Red site, worth having.
I'm 5ft 10", 12 stone, an 'L' for me, the Mrs had an 'S' tallish skinny girl. Fit perfectly.
We used them for real at Autumn camp, the cool night air didn't get through them.
There's more meat on a butchers biro than my Mrs so for her to be warm and happy was a massive credit to Red!
After Autumn Camp it took nearly a month of airing to lose the smell of the campfire though, and you're not allowed to wash them!
All in all a great bit of kit, heartily recommended.
Just to add to this,

I've now added a RED robe to my collection. New to me in 2024.

Very plush and soft material.

Now feels like I can go forest bashing with the dog in the dryrobe Land rover.

Then go hobnobbing with the elite prossesco crew in the RED robe Aston Martin.
