Can anyone identify this pop top please

Hi Folks, this is my new to me camper and I was trying to identify the maker because I was wandering if you could fit roof rails for a couple of paddle boards.

Any ideas?

The webbing straps appear to be Reimo, and it looks like the Reimo roof I had on my old van.

So yes, it could take a rack for paddleboards.

A challenge would be your solar panel though. You don’t want to shade part of the panel with a roof bar

Thanks for replying. I always thought the Reimo roof had a small non lifting spoiler looking section at the front? The shape looks the same though. They all look so similar to me.

Not worried about the solar panel at this stage. It will only be occasionally that the boards will be up there. Just saves deflating and re-inflating when we move from lake to lake.

Looking at the photos on the web site it looks like its an Austop. Well spotted! Does anyone have any reommendations to roof bars? and can you change the canvas to open completely. The one i have is fixed with a window at the front and mesh either side?IMG_3586.JPGIMG_3595.JPGimages.jpg

Ah, those letters on the webbing could also be Austop as suggested!

The solar panel doesn’t work as well if a set of the cells are permanently shaded by the rack, even if you don’t have the board on. You could put rails on, then only mount the bars when needed, better for wind noise, fuel and height.

I have put roof rails on my Austop. From memory the recommended max loading suggested by Austop is fairly low though. We were thinking of a tandem sit on kayak on there at nearly 40 kg and I think that would have been pushing it. Got the rails but never did try to struggle with getting the kayak on there! Occasional use now likely to be inflatable paddle boards, 10 to 15kg each.

When fitting I used the method found on this forum somewhere. Attach the fixing bolts to the roof first with suitable sealant, with the threaded end pointing up (bolt head under the roof), then fasten the rails to the bolts.

Thanks for the replies. On Their web site they atate 25Kgs load and the boards are 10 Kg each so it would be on the limit with the weights but like you, it would be occasional use for 30 mins max then they will live by the side of the van.

Should be fine then. I didn't mention the other tip about installation, make sure you place them outboard of the pop top fabric - any leaks should then be outside and not into your van. I've put spreader plates between the bolt heads and the underside of the roof and over-sized 'repair' washers above, but the washers would probably be fine both sides. You'll probably need a box spanner to tighten the upper nuts through the opening of the roof rails that are usually designed to hold the head end of the bolt.

I have asked the original builder for a cost but not heard back yet. I even thought about removing the canvas and getting someone to make a new one with a zip along the bottom. Surely not that hard for a decent upholstery company.
