HI All, i am looking to get a pop top roof fitted to my T6 and am leaning towards a vanmax pop top for the low profile design. i want to have a rear rock and roll bed on rails and am a little worried about passenger head room when travelling. From what I've read this will rule out the Rib Glidemotion combo but id be interested to see peoples opinions and recommendations /experience.

thanks
Aaron

I've got a Skyline Skylow pop top and Smart bed Evo on rails. I was concerned about head room too. But it's fine.

There's never going to be a huge amount of headroom with a low roof and raised bench. But how often are you going have passengers in there? Are any of them 6ft+ tall?

We're all short arses. And rarely have passengers. I just went for it, and like say itt been fine.

My mate has a rib bed on rails and an even lower roof than mine. Can't remember the brand. It's flush with the roof of the van though, looks awesome. Even that combo is fine with kids in the back etc. maybe not for the 6 or 7ft tall friend however.

Having said this, it's probably best to see as many examples as possible at upcoming van shows. Get exact measurements from manufacturers and installers so you know you're happy before putting massive holes in your van.

It's a Hilo. Don't think they exist anymore, at least not under that name.
I'll ask for pics

Okay Great, thanks, i'm looking at getting the Horizon (Basically the same as the Hi-LO) with a Bed on Rails, I was under the impression that the RIB on rails with Hi-lo was not a useable combo due to head room, so good to hear it may be possible

Did you get your roof and bed combo in the end? How did it go?

I ended up with a Vanmax poptop and a California ocean bed. it actually worked out really well and my father in law who is 6ft 2 can sit in the back with room to spare. the cali bed does sit much lower than a lot of the aftermarket types.

The Cali bed is a bit too rich for me so I’m hoping a low profile pop top and RIB is viable (it sounds like is but I do need to be able to sit on the seat with the top down).

Yeah i agree the cali bed and rails would likely be more than a fixed rib bed but mine worked out about the same cost as the glide motion setup by the time id purchased the bed, rails, floor and multiflex board but the prices on cali stuff varies widely. From what i read before the rib have about the highest overall seat height from the floor of the van to the top of the cushion.

Titan i believe were quite a bit lower.

Hi Mate thats the headroom in mine now having gone with a Kali setup i have a raised floor so actually less headroom floor to ceiling but the bed system sat lower as a whole than a lot of other options. if you went with a regular floor height you would have another 20mm.

Floor to ceiling height roughly 1310mm

Middle of the seat to ceiling 895mm

front edge of Cushion to floor 430mm approx

The cali seas sits about 430mm off the floor at the front edge. Its worth noting that for the rails the floor is is raised 20mm above the kombi floor thickness for the rails or amount 40mm of the steel van floor so id guess the front of the seat 470 ish mm off the steel floor of the van and about 450 mm where you sit in the middle of the cushion.
