Conversion Gas Questions

Hi All

I've been trawling the forums and web for a clear answer on Gas. I am doing a conversion to then sell on, it will have gas hobs and would prefer to get it gas safe certified before sale. what I can't find is if gas drop valves are a must, or if a gas alarm will do?

one site I've seen says i don't need to do anything unless I'm looking to rent it out (which I'm not)

I don’t know the answer to the question, but surely cutting in a drop vent is cheaper than an alarm anyway?

Best person to ask is the person qualified to certify it.
No matter if it is certified it can still leak, like an MOT it’s only good at the time it’s inspected.
Personally I would go with both the drop outs and an alarm as LPG in a small compartment is hazardous.

I’ve put in two drop out vents and have an alarm. I installed mine along the recommended guidelines.

Unless you’re a company you can sell on your van without it being a certified install.

Given how easy it is to fit a drop valve (or 2) you might as well just do it surely ?

Pete

We've got a Propex undermount gas cylinder, and the converter has still put a gas drop vent in, just in case.

Hi @steveHml ... Just an idea...my local caravan repair/service outlet does gas work ...perhaps you could have a chat with a local caravan specialist to see if they could advise you or even give you a gas save cert ..

I have fitted a gas box under the cooker/sink (British Standard), connected up with advice from a neighbour.. (plumber and gas engineer), but my insurer says they wont pay out on fire claims unless the gas system is either installed or fitted by an engineer who is qualified.

Thats sensible really. BUT.. I cannot find one in my area. Lots of Gas engineers, none that touch vans. Even a local campervan sales outlet says they cant help with it, as their 'gas-man' has stopped doing it. (makes you wonder how they will sell them..)

So, if anyone knows of (or is) qualified to and willing to certify a simple install on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border I'd be grateful.

I don't care if it means he/she has to undo and redo my fittings in order to certify it.. I just need it done

Many thanks

Thanks
tried Cambridge campers, will try needingworth
I got my van from Cambridge Campervans. They have the gas check carried out by an external firm. If you’re still stuck let me know and I’ll dig out the paperwork for you.

This is getting stupid.. both the above mentioned campervan sellers told me they don't have anyone certifying their vans.. Not sure how they can legally sell them then?
So I dug around and found a company called caravanmedics that claim to do campervan and caravan habitation servicing and testing. Emailed them, and they came back with 'Sorry we don't work on VW conversion'

So, @Spaghetti , if you do have the name of the external company, I'd be grateful

Mine was done by J&M Caravans of Grafham, Huntingdon.

Cheers
I have emailed them.. The only concern is.. Cambridge Campervans said they had someone but they stopped doing it.. I hope it's not them :)

Hmm, not good. This was via Cambridge Campervans. Hopefully, they’ll still do private jobs.
