Crafter /Man egr problems ?

Ok I’m going to cancel the glow plug replacement as they won’t yo do them all .
I’ll just get the EGR done it’s out of warranty but VW have agreed to pay for that .
If it is one or more that need replacing is it a simple job for a local garage or should I go to VW to have it done ?.

Cheers

Any garage can change a glow plug but I would recommend going to a well reviewed VW independent.
Did you ask why the VW garage wanted to change them all?

I have sent them a message and asked if all of them have to be replaced Awaiting an answer from them.

So it’s plug number 4 and it’s £379 +vat for one I thought it was that price for 4

I think that is the plug with the combined pressure sensor, the most expensive unit.

can anyone tell me what a reasonable lif span of a glow plug is?.
They replaced the EGR out of warranty because of only having 40k on a 67 plate van but wouldn’t go the glow plug that went as the same time .

I have a 21 year old Audi that’s never had the glow plugs changed, IMO that’s reasonable.

my glow plug (chamber no 1) has just been replaced at 42k miles which is similar

edit: I have T6 and noticed this is Crafter corner. Rookie error

Can I ask how much? Been quoted £120 from one indie and now awaiting a quote from another local indie (fellow rookie with a T6)

Main dealership £379 + Vat for 1 (this is the one with the sensor on it)
£370 inc vat for 4 at a vw Audi specialist.
It’s a crafter but can’t think they would be much different if at all

Local garage charged £65 for glow plug change on cylinder No 1. However they did also say that this glow plug could be accessed without removing the (EGR?) cooler mounted on top of the engine. Hence the price was cheap, if the cooler needed removal its a much bigger job and could easily add some more labour time to that.

The £120 doesnt sound too bad as thats probably just another hours labour which they may need to remove the cooler depending which plug it is?

as @DaveF said, the one with the sensor is a lot more expensive for the part itself, Cylinder No. 3 I believe on the T6 according to the workshop manual.

So I have had a response from vw and they say the cost for the 1 glow plug is higher because they have to replace the loom to the glow plug as well to get the 2 years warranty Is there a chance that the loom could also be the problem ?.
