Dead battery not jump-starting

I keep that photo of the GB70 manual in my photos on my phone - in the favourites folder. Along with other manuals that I may need for the T6.

Now, THAT is a good idea!

So after all that and reading every thing i could on the AGM battery and the shunt i now see that you put both of the charge leads on the battery and off you go?

The smart charger is now back on charge however when i did try to turn over the engine it did turnover just didnt fire up.

Jeez I still have a lot to learn at nearly 50
When the jump starter has enough oomph in it, it will probably start your van. The real query is why did your battery drain? Check its age. Has the van been standing for a long time? Has it been repeatedly turned-over without going anywhere? After those checks, I’m out and a Sparky’s opinion is needed. (It just isn’t really cold enough at night yet to explain why the battery is labouring.)

That will be my fault and the fault of Alpine as they were talking me through the lack of Apple CarPlay on my Alpine head unit. Totally forgot the ignition was on as I was updating the firmware.

Sat watching the GB40 led flashing red and willing it to move to the next segment so I can carry on tinkering with the van. ;)

If you have a battery charger as well, then get that on the battery whilst you are waiting for the GB40 to charge. Every little helps !

I have turned the garage inside out trying to find the battery charger, still it alludes me. :cautious:

I think Lidl’s are doing a battery charger this week - I’m not “professional” when it comes to these things, but that would be a cheap and cheerful device to have handy.

Ah, that would do it! At least you won’t be pulling things apart looking for a non-existent fault! Fingers crossed that your battery recovers from the drain. It should do as it didn’t drain completely!

Cheers @JOG

And we are back in business, van is running. Happy bloody days :)

Result! Did the battery turn it over or did you need the jump starter? Are you going to take it out for a sneaky run to get the battery up to steam?

It’s still in the drive @JOG until I can put the dash back together as when the battery went I was in the middle of upgrading the firmware on the Alpine HU.

That’s my next issue as I think the HU is bricked due to the battery dying during the firmware upgrade. I do hope not though.

Aw, FFS! That could be terminal if it died mid-upgrade. However, if the HU powers up and connects at all, you could be surprised. It will restart the upgrade from scratch

I am already in touch with Alpine, so a quick email to them and hopefully they can assist with my conundrum.

The head unit boots up but the displays update failed and nothing else.

Are you upgrading over wifi, from a USB stick or from a laptop tethered to the HU?

USB direct into the back of the HU, hence the dash being part.

Buggeration! I’m surprised it didn’t initiate automatically from the USB. Can you get to any of the menus to get to “factory reset”? Probably not as the firmware is half-arsed. Over to Alpine, I fear!
