That said, I don’t think I’ve used Nav once since I updated the last time… it’s just so terrible compared to CarPlay.

Yes, certainly an excellent backup when in Europe or offline in remote areas.
 
Sorry for dumb question, but anyway...
Is it possible to simply drag and drop content from extracted folder to a SD card?
does it matter if you are using mac or win?

Unless you've jailbroken your head unit, you need a genuine VW map card, or a cloned one. It's then a case of extracting the downloaded file which will produce a "Maps" folder, format the SD card and drag/drop or copy &paste the Maps folder into the root of the formatted card.

Hi, sorry for lack of info. I do have a genuine vw map card, and I used to update the maps with a vw tool, which sadly is longer available. So simple drag abd drop should do.
Does the card need to be formarted? Which standard?

Normally its enough to delete the files on the card before copying new content. No need to format.
