Do I Sell The T6 And Re-live My Youth

i must add that i was a co-driver in most of those cars,( in my eyes the most important person) just ask any driver
but i have been privileged to be in some seriously quick cars in the forest and on tarmac over the years

Into a it of tarmac rallying then @chriscroft
Had an Escort harrier loved that and a MK3 we called preston ( bit of a dog)
When I was Student a house mate from North Wales got me interested, Audi Quattro was the "God", but for mortals a Vauxhall Shove-it; Sh1t-vette; Chevette was a good way into the sport

Oh don't say that......, I've never had one, but always loved the idea of one. If they were like the MK2's within 3 years they had rusted away:(
Honest, absolute rubbish. Hated it !
What I do like to think of is the future classics. When the Xr2 or Rs Turbo arrived they were 2 a penny. Xr3i`s everywhere !
So what are todays future classics ?
I picked up my youngest lads (17) new car today, a Volvo V50 on a 07 plate. 200,000 miles on it, and it honestly drives like a car with 20,000 miles, and looks like new.
Just over a grand to buy, and probably the best value car I have ever bought.
Future classic ? probably not, but I bet it will run for another 200k. Not sure if my T6 will make the first 200k

But Mk1 Escorts are beautiful just like a Ferrari
The good news with the Volvo V50.....it's a Ford Focus poshed up, so fits into the old ford thing........ I think the V50 just about saved Volvo until the Chinese came along.
Funnily enough I've just posted up about Volvo's just looking at my 4th one, I honestly don't think I will ever own another brand. Love them, and boy are they on a role with international awards.

Oh my goodness, my first car was a red Chevette that I paid £300 for and shared with my mother, then I bought a baby Blue one and crashed it into the back of a solid iron Volvo of my mates on the way to Skeggy, so got hold of anther one in Brown, I loved that car.

It's sad old blokes like us that pay 1990's house prices for new VW vans that now have a bit of spare dosh to buy back our old 80's and 90's cars, that have pushed up the prices of these things. Last year I spent all year looking for a MK2 Golf GTI 16v in Oak green, 3 door, and big bumpers, as original as possible. I looked at loads in a lot of the locations around the UK I worked, but not one was as advertised. Then after going to the VW show at Stamford Hall and finding what I wanted, a 1 owner Golf exactly as I spec'd, in the 'show and shine' section, negotiated a daft price for it, only for the old chap to bottle out the next day, I totally gave up on old cars and got the T6!

i'm a big believer in its now become a generation thing, my lads can't tell the difference between a mk1 and a mk2 escort but my generation who rallied the pants of them in the forests and tarmac crave for them, and they are fetching silly money, but for how long? I struggle to see any modern day cars achieving cult status, all ford are doing with the rs focus is a limited addition model of the same car!! I've watched mk1 rs turbo customs double in price in the last 2 years

I love escort mk3 turbo....when I did my level 1&2 YTS (showing my age) for mechanics the garage owner had one and Id ask to clean it for him once a week just to get in it lol

I had the opposite idea
Was to Get rid my rs 4 & my sportline & pump all the money
On a 60k +Abt t6 arghh!
Any way obviously was not thinking straight that day lol

I did 3 years of YTS in auto paint and body, before moving to mechanical for a further 5 years. £30 a week, running a Honda C50, and my Mum taking £10 of that for board!! Oh how I miss the simple life.

£10...that's harsh mine took £5....leaving £24.50 to get my bus pass....yet I was still out every night having a few beers

:laugh::laugh:
That's my Mother for you.
I agree though, I always seemed to have cash in my pocket, and even managed to save up a 10% deposit on my first house at 18 from the small wages I got, and the dozens of side jobs I did on mates cars.

Woo talk about memory Lane..I too had a c50 that I rode to my yts mechanic scheme . gave my old man 15rips of it,cos he was a greedy git,an still managed a night out with the lads..an as for the Volvo's..wife n I still talk about the S70 that we owned, all day comfort, fast, frugal ( for a 2.5)an yer could throw a gearbox or two inthe boot..I cosset the Volvo pv544 or pv444 but prices have gone silly..
Think classic cars are like supermodels..nice to look at n ride but they're hard work n eat all yer money.lol
