Do you cook in your campervan?

I bought a small gas BBQ that fits perfectly below the rear seats. The small bottle of gas fits perfectly in the back corner also.
So I will cook on this most of the time outside if it’s not raining or windy.
I’d much rather have a BBQ than a meal cooked on the hob anyway.

I've got a swing out table on the B pillar and a tyre table and cook on one of those, using either my cadac, a little gas stove or an induction hob if there's possible issues around naked flames in certain areas

I only eat meat / dairy / eggs so cooking is usually really quick, but can create a lingering cooked food smell so the reality is that I never ever cook inside the van, after doing a steak once and smelling of it for the rest of the day

Currently in the process of putting a U-shape bench system in and there will be no kitchen as a result which frees up a tonne of space

We do cook in ours. Despite liking to eat in pubs, we are finding places in holiday spots are incredibly expensive and so don't want to be doing it every night or driving to get to one. Not had any issues but not cooked much smelly food. Bacon was fine. Always with pop top up and window open if not too rainy/windy.

I'll throw one other thing into the mix - I bought a small air fryer and carry it with us. Can only use it when on hookup as no inverter. Supposedly 1350w but measured a bit higher so as long as you don't have 6A hookup, not an issue.

The purpose of this was to expand the variety of food beyond what you can cook in 2 saucepans and also to try to solve the issue of serving up cold food as you often have to cook items separately. I am now even doing the fry up in it and tossing everything back in at the end to ensure its hot. Massive improvement!

I am a beginner and not been too adventurous yet. Looking for more recipe ideas.

Small air fryer great for toast, heating up croissants, small diced roast potatoes, sweet potatoes and roast veggies for other dishes. Depending on the size and if your crisping tray comes out there are so many recipes online from soups to pasta dishes curries etc. We don’t cook anything too aromatic inside the van, an extension lead and the air fryer can sit outside. We also have a slow cooker (with a metal rather than a ceramic pot-much lighter) great for one pot wonders with bread or roasts from the air fryer. When you’re on the road for months at a time eating out all the time not an option, too expensive (and our roof bed has a 150 kg limit!!!). Fortunately mrs vanderlust is an ace chef, cook, baker and occasionally lets me do a casserole ie something easy.

I've been bought a small air fryer for my birthday so looking forward to giving that a whirl - got one at home and use it all the time so should be a boon when out and about though no idea how hard it will hit the old power station
