To be honest the it's a golf seal is what started it I'm sure, it was fine until I fitted it last year! I took it off a few weeks later.
just weird that it moves over a few mm then pulls back when tightened, assumed it had a bend of the metal at the back of the b pilar

Ahh, it pulls back as tightening. I think someone mentions it's due to the back plate earlier in the thread.
This is a drastic suggestion. Spot weld. Other than that, not sure.
