Dual Mass Flywheel Gone After 52k

I was wondering is there any pattern or stats on DMF failure. There seems to be a wide range of mileages when the DMF starts to play up.
Id be interested to learn - Do manual gearboxes have more or less failures compared with DSG ?
Is about the way you drive, conservatively or enthusiastically , towing trailers or heavy campers? Is the DMF the same across the entire engine range?

PS my old T5.1 BTDI DMF gave up at 129k. That van had been mapped from 6 months old and did a lot of towing. So to hear of DMF failure at 25k is shocking.

Does the 7 speed DSG have a clutch does anyone know?I've heard someone saying it got some kind of wet system
As above.

Other threads have indicated that it's more common on lower powered manuals than dsgs.
Manual mode on some newer ones seems have been removed though, as well as sport. Don't know if this is due dmfs failing on dsgs and it being from 'enthusiasm'

But the manuals suffer more than the dsgs.

But after having aanual for two days I found the clutch was a dog in the lower powered ones along with the turbo 'boost' just whacking you back then needing to change, I don't think the 102 is very well balanced imo and I think I'd wear that clutch out and ruin the dmf quicker...

It’s the spring that’s failing as far as I’m aware. In my experience springs fail outside of their normal service life because of the quality variations in the base material and heat treatment. Everybody is cutting costs including the unit price auto’ manufacturers are demanding from suppliers.

Shrinkflation but on quality - seems legit

Twin dry clutch I believe.... But rated for the life of the box by all accounts.

Good question. If you look at other “small commercial vehicles” like the Mercedes and the MANs etc you hear of 500k - 1m miles and still going . Having said that you never know how many engines and gearboxes have they had?

A bit like Triggers brush in Fools and Horses :)
