I just replaced the EGR valve and cooler on my CXGB 2016 T6, and it seems to be running well. Do I need to do any calibration / adaptation with VCDS or similar?
I took a kind of middle path. Bought the "PartsTec PTA510-0837" assembly (valve and cooler). And then I went with genuine VW pipes of the latest revision for both the front and the rear, along with new gaskets.
I won't lie. It's quite an extensive and frustrating job. I have a few things that could potentially save you half the time and half the frustration. Many bolts sit where you can't see them. Buy some type of endoscope camera. There are cheap ones that can be connected to a smart phone. Do not attempt to do the job without removing starter. If you remove it (you will eventually have to anyway), you can access several of the bolts from below (ex. the black cooling pipes underneath and behind the egr cooler that needs to be loosen to to allow access to some other bolts). If you don't have a car lift or platform, be sure to prop the car up so you can easily switch between working from above and below.
