EGR Delete

Hi I’ve had the gas recirc code on for quite a while with no issues with regards to power etc. last week though I was driving home over 80mile at speed and a mile from the house it went into limp mode with the engine light and also flashing glow plug. Since then it’s cut out a few times when I first rev and it appears to be a little bit more sluggish.

The garage suspect it’s the EGR id like to know my options and where is best to get this resolved ? I see these as my potential options.

Replace EGR pro and cons ?

Delete EGR but does the DPf need doing also and what about the MOT etc and where is best to get this resolved I live in Lancashire.

What’s are the potential costs for either ?

By the way it’s a 2018 T6 204

Any advice is appreciated thank you

There’s load# of possibilities for the cause and cure. Have you had the fault codes read since this recent issue?

Definitely a lot better the guy who remapped it back in January. Said the van will feel like it's quit smoking and he was right so smooth. I suppose there is an increase in MPG but I don't really keep tabs on it. He said it might regen more frequent but haven't noticed any difference. I still can't believe how fast these vans are.
Hi Tim. Just thinking about getting this done to my van. Did you have your EGR removed physically or software deleted only? And have you had any issues since getting it done in 2020?

EGR map out and block on an old BiTDI 180 and now anew engine and turbo's for 7k miles with no issues. EGR work shouldnt be noticed in an MOT. When the DPF needs replacing that will go and be mapped out.

So I’ve had my T6 into a well known VAG Tuners in Glasgow for some diagnostic testing on why I was intermittently having the glow plug light up and flashing. The issue appears to be the EGR valve needs either replacing with associated pipes cleaned out too or to have the EGR deleted and coded out. What they are saying though is they can’t guarantee that there won’t be emissions issues in the future, they say they have done others without comeback but they have to say that as up front info. Has anyone had emission issues following their EGR being blanked and coded out? I have a 204ps Shuttle 65 plate T6 with 49k miles with FVWSH.
Hi Andy
I have similar probs with my 68 plate did you ever get your issues sorted?
Did you opt for blanking off the Egr cooler?
D

Hiya mate.

I have read loads of stuff on having it deleted and blanked off. And no one has mentioned about having any comebacks or MOT issues.

I actually parked next to someone who had exactly the same coloured van and their van registration was only one digit different. And same year and mileage. They had had their DPF and EGR deleted two years ago and had no MOT issues.

So I just need to find a company to do it now and find out about future MoT’s.

As far as the engine goes, I think an EGR delete would be worth it post extended warranty..
Last week my T6.1 engine light came on and code was EGR insufficient flow. But van did not go to limp mode. I was in Albania and stopped at a garage than services german cars. They removed EGR cooker and pump assembly. It was filthy. Mainly cooler part. They soaked in magic fluid ( break fluid I think) and it came out spotless. After reassembly and pressure tests done I drove off and after 50kms the warning light self cleared . 150 euros. Good for another 150000 miles. Taking out this bit of the engine is not rocket science. Any good mechanic can do it in a few hours. Cleaning is simple stuff. Don’t be conned by your dealer. Fix it.

It'd probably be cheaper to drive to Albania to have it fixed than get it done here by a dealer.

Looking for some advice or anyone who's mapped out their EGR on a 102 T6. Bit tired of the same fault coming up, replacing the unit and pipes and spending £££ every other year it seems.

In my two minds about doing it. Had the 2 pipes replaced today as they both had splits, mechanic said the unit looks fairly clear, hour or 2 after collecting the EML is back on.

Agree, EGR delete would be awesome. Not illegal like a DPF delete is, so I believe. As long as it passes its smoke test, and they do like the engine to be warm for the mot...
Was told today that the egr isn’t part of the mot I’ve had mine remapped so it doesn’t exist to the van as is the add blue the van runs cleaner pulls through the gears not bad for an 84bhp diesel farter von plodder, had the crappy pipe removed and two blanks put in. The EGR is still there but is now an ornament
The Mot bod said if the cats removed then if you have a bump or post mot it can cause issues with the powers at be

Just clean the thing. Its not rocket science. Takes about three hours. Unbolt the two parts. Dissemble. Soak in brake fluid for about an hour. It will de-coke it and leave it clean. Reassemble. Bolt back on. Delete code. Done. You can even pay a mechanic to remove it for you. 1hr.

Start adding Millers diesel power ecomax to your fuel, Since I started using it have stopped getting warning lights. It was a tip from one of the main T6 engine management tuners in the UK, and it works.

My eml has been coming on and off for the last 2 years, am I to late to try this from now on?
Although I had both pipes replaced yesterday due to hairline cracks, and my mechanic said the build up in the unit from what he could see looks minimal
