EGR Delete

am I to late to try this from now on?
No, It helps with the whole combustion cycle, I wouldn't run a diesel of any manufacturer without it now, not because of what an "expert" said but because of my lived experience of 18 months of EML,s and now 18 months with no EML,s since i started using it. (50mls per tank)

Will give it a try. Cheers!

Just clean the thing. Its not rocket science. Takes about three hours. Unbolt the two parts. Dissemble. Soak in brake fluid for about an hour. It will de-coke it and leave it clean. Reassemble. Bolt back on. Delete code. Done. You can even pay a mechanic to remove it for you.
Do you have to clean the break fluid off after the hour soak or just let it dry and drip off?

Evening

I’ve just removed my only manifold, tomorrow I will be removing my EGR valve & cooler, if it is goosed, I’ll be removing it completely…

My question is… will the van run and drive ok without the EGR?

I used oven cleaner. Soaked until I could scrub the deposits off then rinsed thoroughly.
I needed to essentially drill out the tubes as some were blocked completely. However, once the cleaning fluid could flow everywhere it made short work of the carbon.

Just so we know what to look forward to, how old/mileage was your van when you took that pic?
Do you mostly do short journeys?
Do you use the classy fuel with the additive?
Did the pipes have a gasket?

Thanks - it is just so I can get my nightmares correct tonight.

Most of that info is in the post that I linked to. That was the van's second EGR but....

...how old/mileage was your van when you took that pic
- its a 2016 euro 5, 140, so about 8 1/2 years old and 150000 but I estimate 60 - 70000 since it was fitted (i'm sure I had a receipt for the first replacement at around 80000 miles)

Do you mostly do short journeys?
- No, a mixture really. 5 mile occasional commute, 20 - 50 mile weekend trips, camping >100 miles and I used to tow a 2100 kg trailer now and then.

Do you use the classy fuel with the additive?
- No. I'm firmly on the fence with such things.

Did the pipes have a gasket?
- they do but I didn't carry out the replacement. I kept my old EGR to see if I could clean it up and keep it as a spare.

With all the really useful info on here I think I am definitely going to go for EGR blanking and delete for my T6.

Any suggestions for where to get it done in Sussex?

I spoke with a pro egr delete guy called Matt at UKCC auto techs. I'm still not convinced it's the best idea, but he was sure it wouldn't have anything other issues with adblue or dpf as he says they are unrelated.

Said he's done 100s. Sales pitch most likely . I'm Brighton based

So after three evenings work, I finally got the EGR off my van, that was the worst job I’ve ever had to do on any vehicle.

If I knew it would have been that much of a pig, there may have been a tactical fire!

Pipes EVERYWHERE!
No access to anything!
Loads of seized botls, some sheared off!

And after all the swearing, blood, sweat & tears…

It wasn’t even that bad!

It was definitely passing coolant though, that gasket face can’t have been sealing anything!IMG_8894.jpeg

After removing the inlet manifold to check, clean and re-fit, I found that also “not too bad” lots of oily sludge though, bathed it in brake fluid to soften the carbon, then hot water jet washed it, it come out clean as a whistle, with then allowed me to see the broken swirl flap carrier, so unfortunately, that has zero onward going potential!
