Electric problems after driving through water

Hi all, I’ve just joined the forum as tonight I’ve driven my T6.1 combi through water and lost my power steering and hill, headlight, front assist and sign display!
I’m happy to pay for premium but is the T6.1 fuse board list available as I’ve found a T6 one but I’m hoping that’s different as fuses 17/18 are ok

Sorry to meet you under such circumstances, but welcome, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with information on the licence fee and obviously help in times of need.

Hi, yes all fusebox listing are available in the downloads section and yes VIP Membership is required to download that content

VIP Membership gives you access to the wiring diagrams and they've been well worth the modest support cost on my 6.1 so far

I would advise getting Carista/OBD11/VCDS that can read codes as this would be very useful in fault tracing.

You might also want to start a dedicated thread for folks to help you with rather than doing diagnostics here

Thanks all, sorry my first post was abit rambling! It’s not how I saw 2024 starting! I will get premium tonight to check the fuses as I was hoping to get it sorted for work in the morning, if not I will get a code reader and start a new thread, sorry first time on a forum.

A common issue after driving through water is water moving things up around the undertray front passenger area, would be a good idea to check for anything loose underneath around that area and the cabling around that wing in the engine bay to check for any loose connections.

The oddity that stands out is the road sign recognition as that's done by systems in the dash and the camera up on the windscreen so well away.

Collateral issue that will go away when something else is fixed?

Simpler example but I remember when my T4 put oil pressure light on when I had an alternator problem. RPM display was taken from alternator, engine was running fine but zero RPM on gauge. Can’t have oil pressure if you don’t have RPM, can you?

Thanks Roadtripper, most of the impact was on the passenger side the under trays look ok but I’ve not removed them and yes I do have ACC that’s also faulty now

Agreed @n10n, ignore that for now. Priority is going to be steering and hill start. Suspect Comms with the radar is down and so all the ACC/Front Assist/Signs is a consequence

Hi all, thanks for your advise last night, I’m after some please….
I’ve managed to take the bottom of the inner wheel arch out and what I can see is drenched but doesn’t look soaked, I couldn’t take the main under tray off with spanner’s so will need to get a socket set but it looks solid and has no damage so presume this is ok.
Do the faults latch and have to be reset by a code reader? If so is this something I can buy cheaply or do I need a VAG auto electrician? I’m hoping that as I was doing 50mph happily fault free then suddenly hit the water and lit the dash up like an Xmas tree that these faults will just reset once dried out and are linked to the power steering not working as I have a steering wheel warning light but no fault listed on the multimedia screen, it was like this after I hit the water with the steering working until I got home and turned the van off for 30m then stopped working!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I didn’t buy extended warranty so VW want me to get the van transported over to them and it’s going to cost a small fortune for them to diagnose and fix potentially.

Thanks

Steve

Hey Steve, have you got AA or similar membership?

I have a Carista you are welcome to borrow if you can get up to Aldridge, Walsallshire! Obviously borrow someone's car!
I can show you how to use it, it may well reset some of the nasty lights.
Alternatively get on to Amazon and get one quickly!
Useful bit 'o kit!

No, just Carista. £35 last time I checked, free months fault finding before you pay about £4 a month. Very useful for our vans, worth getting! And homestart with the AA while you're at it!

Definitely a Carista for now even if you use something more in the future - £35 is much better than the usual £100 diagnostic fee. Don't get sidetracked into the new "Evo" version as it's unclear it adds anything for a T6.

Don't just clear the codes, get a record of them first and post them as they may assist fault finding. A reader will also be able to see some fault codes that don't cause warning lights that may give more clues. But yes then first round of fault fixing is normally to clear them and see what returns - if the faults return then they are more likely to be a persistent "real" reason than maybe a transient event.

If you found water evidence in the arch then water has got in, and 50mph water has some force. If you can get the van undercover and do anything you can to get things dry, it may simply be that water has forced itself into a connector block and it will.clear in time.
