So just purchased 2018 LWB t6/t32 camper conversion. 28,600 miles, DSG. Not been out in it yet but hopefully away tomorrow for a night or two. Been reading this forum a lot....but it causes worries; will the EGR become blocked? When was the DSG oil last changed, is the AdBlue mileage right...etc etc.

So does the reading forum create unnecessary worries?

Is there anything I should really urgently check on the van?

I think you have to take everything with a pinch of salt, some people are religious with maintenance others maybe not, will your van spontaneously combust if you miss a service or get it done a few months late because your busy travelling/enjoying it ?

You will always hear more negative things on forums as this is where people will often come when they have issues they are looking into or trying to resolve so it’s easy to perceive a negative slant on things

Just enjoy it and do what’s right for you !

I only consider worrying about situations I can personally change, then I sleep and reset.
Things to urgently check on the van?…..the service record but best done before purchasing.
Best get out and enjoy your camper and deal with life's little surprises as they happen.

Been running Transporters for 17years.

They have never let me down in a major way.

But just like any mechanical machine, they need regular service and maintenance.

And sometimes things break..... And need fixing.

So just keep to the vw recommended service schedule. (This will limit the breakdown risk factor)

And above all, just get out there and enjoy the van.

More info on service schedule.

.

Apparently the timing belt change interval has been recently changed in the UK to match Europe.

Enjoy the van, enjoy it for the reason you have bought it for!
We’ve got two a t5.1 and t6 and had problems only with the t6 but I could of had problems with any vehicle we bought! I still love it as much!
The other way of looking at it is there’s loads of folk who will look at the forum and speak to others and never actually buy one, because they get put off etc.
But these are the ones when they see a van out in the road or follow one will always think “ah wish we had one of them when we could” or
Or “how cools that they are just parked up with a brew on”

Here’s a thought pal of mine bought a 911 996 turbo S X50 because he always wanted one. After 6months the engine let go! 8.5k bill later! But he still loved it and doesn’t regret anything!

Get out and enjoy, as said before the accessories and different ideas cause me more headaches!!

People naturally come to the forum looking for answers when they have a problem even if sometimes it’s not fully developed and is more of a worry.
But then look how many people comment with an initial concern compared to how many vans there are on our roads.
The percentage on here is tiny.

Don’t stress, just stick to the service intervals and enjoy

In the VW garage for a flywheel job.

It hadnt broke down or anything like that, it was just making slight rattling noises when cold, but was fine to drive. I have full warranty cover. So booked it in to be dealt with. (Maintenance).

So I'm currently using a new T6.1 loan van. Which is nice.

I like my cars (and van!) and every one I’ve owned since forums existed has had ‘common’ issues posted about, that would put you off ownership. As mentioned already we do not know the number of vehicles that run perfectly without issue (the base count) to calculate the failure rate - the manufacturer’s will have this information down to intricate detail.

I’d just have what you want because of the pleasure and enjoyment it will bring most of the time and worry about the faults when they happen.

Treat the forums as a source of information that informs you about the big problems, how to minimise / mitigate failures and best way to fix them should the worse happen.

I run a Porsche 911 (996.2) which has the propensity to bork engines (IMS bearing failure and bore scoring) where the repair costs are in the region of £12k. Boxsters are similarly affected. For my car probably 2/3rds of its value. If mine went I’d probably get it done as the cars value is increasing slightly over time. I get incredible enjoyment from driving it!

Yes..... But it shouldn't, you have the perfect vehicle balanced between a car and a motorhome which like any vehicle will cause problems and expense, only in our case we have a large number of owners with a vast knowledge and a willingness to help each other.
I worry only enough to try and stave off larger problems but for the most part i am just grateful to own such an awesomely versatile vehicle.

This forum has saved me money and given me great advice on many occasions. If and when you do have a problem doing a search will usually point you in the right direction.
e.g
1. Saved me a fortune on a driver window motor repair by pointing me in the right direction (Thanks Loz).
2. Was going to get cam-belt done until, when searching on forum re cam belt advice, I was informed of the new 120,000 mies recommendation whereas the VW dealer would have been happy to take my £741
Having this forum makes me more relaxed about having a VW T6

p.s mine is for sale :) Look HERE cheeky wee link ;)

First person in the history of this forum that has said it has saved them money! On repairs, maintenance etc maybe but surely that has been massively offset by the buying of other bits you’ve seen on here?

Worry - Fretting about something you can change. Nothing wrong with that!
Anxiety - Fretting about something you can’t change. Can be very unhealthy!!!

Forum admin....do I get a prize for first person in history saying I saved money because of the T6 forum? :p;)

My shed on wheels has saved me a fortune in hotel and taxi bills over the years and eliminated any need to plan when travelling. Pull up when I feel like it, cook and sleep.
Now I don't need to to look for a private pee spot. I now jump in the back and get the green carafe out :p
