FabWorx

(Sorry for hijacking your thread)

Got my floor out this weekend:

Before installation at Fabworx next week, I'm wondering about whether to...

1. Do as you did, and have them mount the rails straight on the metal floor, then 2mm sound deaden on top of the rail frame + floor.
or
2. Do as Fabworx suggest, and put down 6mm dodo foam on the metal floor - and have them put the rails on top of that.

What do you think?

Also, I'm not sure about how to deal with that small area of flooring around the kitchen edges - perhaps I should carefully cut that back flush to the kitchen cabinet edges?

@Steview The drilled dog-legs on the corners of the rail frame - are they bolted into the van's lashing points? I noticed on yours it looks like there are no bolts on the front offside.

Yes the left hand side bolts to the lashing points. As there are no points to bolt to on the right side you will see all the bolts are on the inner side of the rails. The rear right was just an extra bolt I added as it was easy to get to. If you see the Fabworx website they have a fitting guide which shows you the bolting positions

I've got a Fabworx RS rails bed on order to be fitted by them in a few weeks. Bit concerned about what you've said about the fitting. Has anyone had more recent experience with Fabworx installations?
Did you get the RS rail bed installed and if so what’s your thoughts?

I did mate, took the van up to Fabworx in Chesterfield for them to fit. It was a tricky job for them as they were using existing cushions from my previous RnR bed (as they match the van front seats), and also the kitchen was already installed in the van. They had to do all sorts of tweaks but stuck at it to make it fit. I had a couple of problems, one I had to take the van back to them for which was a bit frustrating but they paid for my fuel which was a nice gesture. The other issue I managed to sort myself.

The rails and bed are seriously solid, about 140kg total I think they said! No rattles or squeaks as other people seem to have mentioned.

Things to bear in mind...
Installing the van floor was a pain as you have to make up different thickness in the middle where the metal sheet of the rails is.
The seat is high, so you might be touching your head on the ceiling in the back.

Evening all, new to the site. I have paid a deposit in a fabworx RR bed and sliding frame.

The guy advised that I fit 6mm sound deadning across the floor prior to fitting.

I have had a couple of different opinions on this and just would like to ask if anyone here has had this system fitted and what they did?

Are these systems noisey?

Thanks all

We have a Fabworx electric RnR bed, great for wifey and her weak spaghetti arms, but not the sliding system. I can vouch for the comfort of the bed bit. Sorry to be a bit useless, it's a gift...

Hi all, new as well and starting my conversion project. I have been looking for a while at different Rib and Rock N Roll bed for our van. As it is a LWB we were really intrigued by Fabworx RS Sliding floor so people that ride in the back can get closer to the driver and also adjusting seats as needed. I believe you @meza had them fit and if not wrong @Steview fitted himself? May I ask how is it going after so far? I have mixed feelings as here some reviews are really bad and not much available elsewhere aside some other mixed feelings in general. After the research we were kind of leaning towards forgetting the whole sliding option and put some fixed RNR such as the Vulcan one, which so far seem to be one of the most reputable brands and not too expensive.

Any thoughts? Thank you all

We have an electric fixed 112 RnR bed from Fabworx, no issues after 2 years of our ownership, if I were to moan, it would be about the 'uprightness' of the seat for folks travelling in the back. The electric setting up/down is great, very comfortable indeed. Quite rare we have someone else in the back, we're happy!

Hi @Drive Wayne, thanks for the feedback! If I am not wrong you are saying that the seat would be a bit uncomfortable for long-ish journeys? :( We are investing into a Rock N Roll bed as we will have family coming to visit occasionally and we plan to do some journeys together, as well as with friends. I was also of the impression you could "regulate" the back into different reclining positions? Sorry to insist, but how would you rate from 1 to 10 the comfort? You do have the impression they did a good job anyways?

I'll use my own scoring system... Comfort of seat for long journeys 5h1t. Comfort of bed set up A1.
Very solid, good construction.
No way to recline ours, ask the question of them.

I’ve got one. It’s brilliant to be honest, but obviously I’ve nothing to compare it to as it’s my first R&R bed.
Yes you can adjust the uprightness, we have it dropped down 1 notch for the kids in the back.

Fitting wise, I had them fit it and I stripped out my floor completely. They put a sheet of sound deadening down for me.
Showed me all the bolting points underneath and what they’d done, I was impressed. They’ve obviously learned and improved their product/service.

Please tell us how to adjust the uprightness! Please!

Thanks that is great news! I am planning to get it installed as well and from the sound of it they have improved from the past. Hope this will be the case!

Could it be that the electric one is different type and you would not be able to adjust as it is made from the electric mechanism so you can not lock it at different positions as the other? I may state something obvious but can't you just use the remote/settings to drop down only a few inches and use it like that, or is it fixed positions (full up or full down)?

Sadly, full up, or full down

I hope someone can clarify something about the insulation on the floor. I have been reading and following a lot "The Van Conversion Bible" (Low and Comley) so far. They suggest to insulate the floor and I see many people online following the same method of building a frame with thin battens and then filling the gaps with a thick insulation material of the kind of PIR insulation (e.g. Eurothane). Of course then you would put ply and a new floor/vinyl.

From my practical understanding, anything as such will not make the fitting of a RNR/RIB or other seat/bed anchored to the floor of the van as it would prevent from anchoring it firmly (or crashing the structure/foam) to the floor. One installer told me that such procedure is mainly for big vans and that small conversions (T6 size) would not normally have such thick insulation, also because it is better to insulate the walls and roof as hot air goes up and doing the floor would not bring a big difference.

Any opinions on the matter and suggestions on how to still insulate slightly?

Thanks
