LWB TSI manual
For selfbuild vans they have to have a Certificate of Compliance, IE, the vehicle is built to EU standards (for things like gas cooker, adding windows, R&R bed etc) and solar panels, which is tested at the first ITV (MOT) and logged on/in the logbook. The next year they check nothing has changed etc. Anything differant is a fail!!!!! I wanted a towbar fitted last year the total cost was around 900 Euros by the time it was fitted, certs added at new ITV test!!!!!!!! thought I can live without a towbar for now. Even California´s need the same certs. The test itself is a real joke.......I activated cruise control on my startline when I fitted a multi function steering wheel.
Do you think you would get away swapping the steering wheels?
I’m curious to know how campervans can pass the ITV ?
Surely they are all modified with the exception of California’s etc.
Yep they will check to see if it on the spec´s of the vehical that left the factory. I cannot even have led bulbs fitted as thats fail as soon as they see them.... So I remove the led bulbs before test and fit again on returning home............... They even fit a OBD reader to check for faults!!!! (I remove all faults if any just before it goes in.....If you use a genuine VW cruise control stalk/steering wheel how are they to know that it wasn't factory fitted, surely they don't check the build sheet of every vehicle that's presented to them.
Oh, I see. There lays the problem. Here in Spain unless its factory fitted it will not pass ITV (MOT in UK) and there is no one here in Spain that will fit them!!!! Would still be interested in fitting it if you know who does it as they might be able to advise. We are back in UK next year for a bit. Thank you none the less
@Dav-Tec do a lot of supply and fit MFSW’s.For selfbuild vans they have to have a Certificate of Compliance, IE, the vehicle is built to EU standards (for things like gas cooker, adding windows, R&R bed etc) and solar panels, which is tested at the first ITV (MOT) and logged on/in the logbook. I could get away with changing steeling wheel I think. I might look at that next year when in UK if I can find someone to do it all. My campervan is LHD registered in Spain.
We hope to be visiting UK April time, so will give them a call as I would really like it done. Thank you for recommendation.Oh, I see.
I had mine fitted by Professional Retrofits near Nuneaton/Hinckley. Mine is a T5.1 so stalk based and as that was a genuine part it looks like it’s been there all the time.
They do steering wheel changes too I believe so I’m sure they’d have you sorted if you thought you could go for it.
Workmanship is great - happy to recommend them.
Again that you for recommendation.@Dav-Tec do a lot of supply and fit MFSW’s.
It’s one of the best modifications I’ve done to my van.Again that you for recommendation.
I wouldn't have a van without adaptive cruise control, makes long drives so much easier. It’s one of the best modifications I’ve done to my van.
Having cruise control makes a big difference
Me too!I wouldn't have a van without adaptive cruise control, makes long drives so much easier.
I use cruise control on my T6 whenever the conditions suit it and I don't see a noticeable fuel saving. It's easier on me but that's the only benefit. The only thing now I would love on my 2016 T6 is Cruise control as roads here are long and straight so would save loads on fuel.
Agreed, to be fair it's actually quite rare that I find traffic conditions that suit, often I use it in temporary reduced speed limits on motorways where average speed cameras are in use.I stopped using cruise control around 5 years ago, I never felt fully in control and worried about my attention wandering, Much prefer having to keep the speed within bounds by appropriate application of the right foot while monitoring my surroundings.
I’ve used cruise control every journey since I’ve had it. The van is ‘dumb’ cc but the golf is adaptive (radar based). I haven’t had an at fault accident since beginning to drive (30 years) and I don’t plan to either.I've got ACC in a couple of other cars, but I worry that I'm not paying proper attention. More than once I've found myself following lorries at 56mph on the motorway because I've forgotten to overtake.
Yep, and I found with my old Skoda which had not only ACC but active lane keeping, that because I wasn't having to focus on constantly adjusting CC speed or making small adjustments to keep me in lane (as the car was doing all this) I was able to focus more on what the cars around me were doing and so was more aware than without the driver aids.I’ve used cruise control every journey since I’ve had it. You can still pay attention to your surroundings no matter what driver aids you do or don’t use.
I have also noticed this with the 2 T6.1s I borrowed. They both crackled quite badly when the phone was connected to the USB-C port.Wireless CarPlay and charging or just a head unit that doesn’t need resetting every month to stop the crackle!
