fault codes 15560 & P046C

@Shaw how did the software update go?
Mine has just started throwing up the egr-1 error (but nothing on the mfd) so I would be grateful for an update before I contact the dealer

Is it still OK...... ? I was due to have my T6 delivered today (late 2015 150 EU6 engine). It has 12,000 miles on it and looks like its sat on a forecourt for a while. in the 100mile drive to deliver it, apparently it lost power, and they said there was an exhaust sensor problem and possibly a problem with the EGR valve. It's now going back to the dealer to be fixed before delivery.

Having previously had problems with DPF filters on cars, this makes me feel pretty anxious! It looks like you've had one fix and it's been fine since then?

My EGR failed on the M25 loaded with kids and wife 200 miles from home.
Couldn’t fault VW assist. Put us up in a Hotel and low loaded us back home then Van to Marshal Bridgwater (Absolutely shocking dealership from day one!)
Claimed nothing found. Got Van back week later same thing, went into limp mode. Lucky got home. Called AA, who got VW assist who said its EGR and he can’t help. Back to dealer who finally said yes it is EGR. Replaced and fingers crossed.

You’ve got to wonder about some of the dealers abilities. Are they that rubbish at their job or is it that they just don’t give a toss and want your van out the way because they don’t really have the time to fix it?

I have a running list big gripes with them and have VW commercial asking me to send them all my complaints. Honest it was shocking service from day one of ordering.
Yet every time I go in there(trust me it’s a lot)there are so many staff walking around in the skinny suits with Lego hair cuts who just don’t give a monkeys. Yet all the window stickers and pretty flags flapping in the wind state otherwise.

VW are only interested in the contents of your wallet. You are an inconvenient obstacle in their way. They do not want your van in the workshop as they could be selling that time to a punter for 120 an hour plus vat. VW will pay a lot less than that for warranty work.

Long time, no hear! Just got curious what's the VIN of your van: WV1.... or WV2....

Please hear me out.
I've read pages and pages of threads on here re EGR faults and cleaning etc etc. But I've no change power etc & dont think am running the problematic software.
If I've missed something please send me a message and I'll remove this post.

2017 T6 t26 84, with a simple day van conversion.. owned since 2018 @ 8k miles.
It is not used daily, but weekends and all holidays. Now at 33k miles.

Journeys are generally 3 miles of local hilly roads to motorway, then 1- 5 hrs motorway depending on where going.
It only ever has Shell Super expensive.
If I've had to use something else then I've added redex fuel cleaner with the fill up.

Shortly after conversion in 2018 it had VW assist out for an Egr code & Nox sensor. Flushed egr and replaced sensor by VW.
Drive to Italy and back, no problems.

2019 whilst in Holland had Egr fault. VW euro assist basically laughed and said 'on with journey' as well as blaming steering wheel being on wrong side. Flushed back in UK by VW dealer under warranty. VW commercial extended EGR warranty by 6month beyond main warranty but refused to replace.

July 2021 Emission light came on during run to south coast, just below Birmingham. No loss of power etc etc. On next restart went off and didnt come back on.

May 2022 in nearly exactly same spot on motorway below Birmingham emission light comes on..circa 2.5 hours in to journey.
Ignore it and drive to Cornwall and back.
Light stays on.
Still no change in power (there isnt much ever anyway!) Or mpg loss etc.. (I dont think it's to do with Birmingham either!)

I've now got a Carissta and am getting the P04001 code only.
Engine Software is 4044.

1 VW say there are no outstanding recalls..but should the software have been updated under warranty & or at service?

2 Its still running fine. I cleared the code yesterday and took for an hours run on the motorway and locally. I'm pretty sure it actually did a regeneration as well.. light not back on dash but Carissta shows as pending. (Is that saying it will come back or the old still showing).

(3 do I just need to stop hoping and get the EGR replaced)

How did you know? Any warning lights?
July 2021 Emission light

Assuming the actual code was P0401? Was is under Carista's OBD section, or under Engine section, or both?

How many miles since the emission light on and "now"? Just asking because emission codes fade away by themselves fairly quickly.
Unfortunately Carista doesn't distinguish very well current codes and ancient ones from history log - I mean Carista has some capabilities to read old fault logs but it's not clear to me if/when it interprets/represents them as current.

Engine Software is 4044.
I guess the actual/full software identifier of yours is 04L 906 056 JS 4044, the new one is 04L 906 056 JS 7300 (available since 10.2019)

1 VW say there are no outstanding recalls..but should the software have been updated under warranty & or at service?
I guess that's correct - the software update was mandatory (=recall) only on passenger carriers (VIN: WV2....) for the others (VIN:WV1...) an option. On the latter, I guess the update policy varies .

2 Its still running fine. I cleared the code yesterday
Was the emission light still on (from the May 2022 above)?

(3 do I just need to stop hoping and get the EGR replaced)
I guess - eventually maybe. However, in near future only if you've got flashing coil light because of P0401. But still before that have a proper diagnosis e.g. by using VCDS.

Many thanks @mmi

2019 Holland - eml on and maybe a slight drop in power. Diagnosed by VW euro assist.
July 21 guessing - I ignored it as was unable to get in a garage and it went off and stayed off until the trip this May. Circa 6k later.

I've only just got the carista. The code was at OBD level as I've not yet paid for the full access.

Since clearing last week I've done circa 100 miles and light is off still.
I'm driving to Suffolk and back over next week so will see how it goes.

I've booked in with a local vw specialist garage for 7th June.

Cheers again, much appreciate your reply.

Hi @Johnmidge. Who's your local VW specialist? I presume they're an independent? I'm just asking for future reference as you're close by to me.

Welcome to the forum btw.

i have code p0401 and 80407 at 30k the light came on it’s cleared lights of but it says pending

Quick update.
Cleared codes but backon within 100 miles. Done a further 300 since and now back home.
Still running fine.

Still confused as to what to do next.

Egr and cooler replace ?
Try getting the latest software added, but how?
Get a remap done to remove EGR ?

Did you have same codes and no change in performance etc?
I had p0401 and 80407 it’s said restricted flow would clear but came bk pending the little actuator arm was seized solid some one plugged it in January time and they was Egr fault them so cleard it been all right till a few weeks ago management light came on cleard but soon as you did 15miles it came bk not dash but said pending done about 100 now on new Egr had no fault codes since have you checked yours for any splits in the pipes

Hey hey,

I also have an EGR problem but still looking at other solutions. Did any of you try this? There are a lot enthusiast comments on this video of people who tried this.

Greetings
