Hi all.

Had these fault codes come up on carista:

P0764 - Cylinder 4 glow plug circuit/open
15922 - Manufacturer specific code

The P0764 can be cleared but comes back
The 15922 code cannot be cleared.

Engine management is on but goes off when I clear the P0764 but comes back.

This started when the weather turned very cold.

Has anybody else had an issue with these codes and what was the solution?
150 T32.

Thanks.

15922 is VW equivalent code for P0674, thus only one fault. Either the wiring or the glow plug itself.
Not directly related to cold weather except the glow plugs stay on just a bit longer when it's colder.
Interested how old/mileage of the van?

I had this earlier in the year ....i changed all 4 glow plugs. 3 are around £20 and the one with the sensor is £140ish

Do all models have the glow plug with the sensor?
I have caac eu5 2.0 and the 4 plug I removed were all the same: 03l963319C

Is changing the glow plugs a diy job? Or how much to get them done by a garage?
It can be done diy. You need to give a good clean around them before removing them to ensure no dirt falls in when you remove them. I used a piece of water hose connected to the vacuum cleaner.

I paid £100 which i thought was good considering the cost if i snapped one.

If the glow plug is going to be seized or break it’s the same regardless of who’s operating the tools. The owner pays.

Gotta be less chance of a monkey on his drive with a socket, than a VW tech with 20+ years experience breaking one though surely

Hi guys -

Sorry to bump up an old thread but I thought I’d try it before starting a new one, I had an amber light come on last night, thanks to amazon next day delivery of a Carista it shows it is the 15922.

I’ve booked in with VW for diagnostic first thing this morning (before the Carista arrived) she said it would be £200 diagnostic fee unless it’s covered by all-in extended warranty.

My question is do you guys think all-in extended warranty will cover this work with it being an engine component? If not I’d rather sack off the £200 diagnostic and send it to an Indy.

My other question was is it safe to drive until it goes in (Thursday next week) but from searching the fault code on the forum I get the impression driving is not an issue.

Thanks!

I feel that the VW 'roll the dice' £200 diagnostic fee is just another of their dealership scams to get you not to pursue a warranty claim.
Paying £200 for a diagnostic is a rip off anyway. Why do you not just pay an hourly rate like you would for any other job? They don't bill you for the spanners they use so why do they bill you for using a diagnostic tool?
It's not something I've had done so can't say if the warranty would cover it. But I wouldn't trust a VW dealer not to just clear the fault, take your £200 and say it's not a warranty issue and there's nothing wrong with it.

My EML came on last Saturday morning, Carista showed both these codes 15922 and P0674 (Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit). I can't get into my local indy VW garage until mid-October (they have a good rep so leads times are long!) to get the plugs replaced but I have a couple of long drives to do in the next few weeks, am I likely to cause any major issues by carrying on driving?
