Flat battery?

If I can resurrect this. I’ve had a similar issue today. Took the van out for approx a 20 mile drive a few days before Christmas and then was parked up till today. Came out to go out in it and battery flat. Had to call VW Assist who sent a AA van out to me. The AA guy got it jump started and also ran a test on the battery. His computer he uses to test the battery found no parasitic drain on the vehicle or the battery was knackered. But it perplexed him as to why the battery would flatten in just 10 days?
tracker, dash cam, USB charger etc etc fitted? - they will all drain the battery.

you will need to charge the van battery on a smart charger for a good 24hrs.

My van will be 5 years old March 22, so the battery in the van was coming up to 5 years old, which was one reason why I decided to replace it, also, one of the cells had approx 1/3 of the battery acid missing.
as the battery is sealed, how does the battery acid get out?. Back in the day you could just top them up & re charge.
From that, you can se that car mechanics is not my specialist subject!

Dashcam yes but runs on a independent lithium battery. As I’ve said the AA guy tested for a parasitic drain and nothing was found. I’ve ordered a Ctek charger and thanks to your info will connect the earth to the chassis

you will need a DC Clamp meter to test for power draws.

++++

get clamp meter setup, lock van . .

wait 15mins for all modules to sleep.

check power draw is below 50mA.

++++++++++

for draws above 50mA, start switching things off or unplugging them.

make a note of what items draw individually

its normally a combination of many small item that contribute.

I have just been out to start the van, flat battery.
I noticed yesterday that the interior lights did not stay on when the door was opened, as they would normally do,& then fade out after approx 30 seconds after the door was shut, they just went out after approx 30 seconds, no fade out as usual, just turned off.
Has anyone any ideas as to where to start looking?
Hi guys,

I encountered the same issue this morning for the 1st time in 3 yrs. On start up, the battery only just had enough to turn the engine over. One more confirmation try, the same. Didn't have chance or the the thought process to see what charge it had left in it as I was just leaving for a dog walk meet up. I put the charger on it for 15 mins and it started normally. The van got a 15 mile run up the M1 and all was as normal and no loss of engine power or warning lights. On return 3 hrs later, it started as normal.

Bit more background - had the Moll battery changed on recall last March so battery is still pretty new.

I don't power anything other than a small flashing LED on the dash which acts as a deterrent. I have a CTEK D250 powering a leisure battery from the alternator and the leisure battery serves the rear of the van but that's independent to the engine battery.

I did some work on the handbrake cover the other day (3 days ago) and realised to my horror I hadn't put the hand brake back on. We have a level drive and it was in gear for that time. I've been working in the back of the van weather permitting but haven't had the need to move it so just wondering if leaving the handbrake off for that long has contributed to the sap in charge?

I also had my Moll battery replaced under warranty after 26 months with another Moll. A year later (last November) it failed to start. Since then, I don’t dare leave it for more than a few days without a maintenance charger on it.
It goes in to VW Preston in two days time for an Inspection check and to have the battery checked.
