fuel economy

800 miles 180 kombi dsg 4motion around 31mpg but have had it down to 23.8mpg when first had it ,the 4motion drag will not help the mpg

Not sure if mine is reading correctly but nonetheless, with the cruise set at 85mph, from Calais to Nantes it averaged 28.5 miles to the gallon. 204 4motion DSG. Interestingly too, it was smooth as up to 88 mph then started getting twitchy at 90 and became uncomfortable. I have no interest in driving at that speed but was just curious to see how it handled at different mph's. All in all, a fantastic 10 hour drive and I am now looking forward to the return journey!

On our first run up to the Lake District last week we filled right up at the start of the journey and then refilled just before we arrived (circa 200 miles travelled - we only topped up because the van was likely to be standing for much of the week and we weren't sure how much we'd need for the Eberspacher). Fully loaded camper van with bikes and boat trailer behind at (as we have subsequently found out!) close to the 3000kg weight limit.

We calculated MPG at 41.9.

Granted, we were sticking to speed limits with cruise set to 60 MPH for most of this drive, all of which was on clear motorways, but I was pretty impressed with this (did similar in my Defender a couple of months back and only managed around 24mpg).

T30 Highline 150 DSG.

Our current 'van is a 2013 T5 180ps LWB high-top converted to a camper which has done 40,000 miles from new. Calculated in exact fuel fillings against recorded miles it has averaged 34.25mpg. However from comparison with satnav speed readout the speedo is about 3% high which makes me think that the recorded miles may be 3% high and thus the calculated mpg may be 3% high (i.e. a true 33.22mpg?).
On single full to full tank figures we have seen 39.95pmg whilst on holiday driving gently in France but conversely have seen 28.15mpg pottering about in town during the winter.

Our previous 2010 140ps T5 LWB high-top similarly fitted out did 31.9mpg over 42,000 miles.

Prior to that a 2007 174ps T5 LWB high-top etc. did 30.4mpg over 46,000 miles.

We've just bought a 2016 140ps T6 LWB Highline to be fitted out the same as the predecessors, time will tell how that does.

That's roughly what I am averaging now by driving carefully. I have noticed with the change in temp now it's getting cold that I am having heater on longer and blue motion is obviously not kicking in as much so using a little more but nothing dramatic.

On a 320 mile run back from Wales today the van showed 47.9 mpg - I was cockerhoop, but when I worked it out correctly it actually came out at 42.7!

102 euro6 just under 10,000 on the clock
Getting 459 miles on 63 litres = 33.12 mpg
somethings wrong some where t5 1.9 mapped to 140 same run to work avg 42 mpg
both driven the same

I'm getting approx 540/550 miles per 60 litres on 150 manual. Have now done 7500 miles and can feel that the engine is starting to loosen up.
I hope that this will continue to rise until I can squeeze 600 miles per 60 litres (Has a 70 litre tank, but on average, this is the amount required to brim my tank from range on mfd showing o/10 miles left on range). This should then mean I only need to refill once per week instead of every 6 days grrr.

71 ltrs of fuel on last file up and I'm lucky if I will get 400 miles out of it and that's unloaded 180 dsg swb kombi 4motion combination of short journeys around town and good runs

The thing that single-handedly improved my mpg the most, was removing my 245 x 40 x 19 alloys and putting my 205 x 16 standards back on for the winter. Easily regained 5 mpg just by doing this. Interior noise dropped by about 10db as well

Are you running them at high pressure as well?

I was expecting lower mpg when I put my winters (235/55/R17) on, but haven't noticed any difference, and infact the are a damn sight quieter than the factory Goodyears.

Looking like I'll get around 420 miles to 58 litres on the very first tank from new.... not including delivery fuel.

Driving style the same. Same roads, same 19/20" wheels tyres.

So far Euro 6 150 is no improvement over the remapped Euro 5 mpg wise. Still very impressed with how quiet the engine is and how it has much more growl like a petrol.

I'll let the engine run in more first though.

We've not been able or tried to evaluate ours since the first tank when we got 41.9 (which we were very happy with) because we have used the Eberspacher heater beteeen each refil since.

Looking at more recent comments I am starting to wonder if the improved economy is a bit of smoke and mirrors and a lot more to do with the skinny, high pressure, low rolling resistance tyres the euro 6s are supplied with as standard rather than more efficient engines??

Surf-Report......I've been saying this for a while! I always brim the tank and do my own calculation........I've been doing that for probably 20 years now on various cars. My e46 BMW trip comp was never more than 1mpg{"Attachments":[{"__type":"ItemIdAttachment:#Exchange","ItemId":{"ChangeKey":"CQAAABYAAABFrHVtPSqaQIfOoShQZkcHAABJYh7R","Id":"AQMkADAwATY3ZmYAZS1kYzRkLWU5 different to my own calc.....but the T6 is woefully inaccurate.....comp is usually 5 or 6 mpg on the optimistic side! Others on here reckon it's accurate......mine ain't!!!!!!!

don't know what happened there?! I'll try again.......................my beemer was bang on but the T6 is usually 5 or 6 mpg on the optimistic side! Woefully inaccurate!!
