fuel economy

First full tank with proper calculations 28mpg.
I cannot get better than 33mpg on the trip comp. I can't understand how you get better. I'll be at the end of my 2nd tank later this week. So far it's going better than the first tank by a good 40 miles.

I hope i can see 35+ regularly in real terms from the T6, I swapped from the Transit sport i had to a caddy because of the poor fuel consumption (30mpg if driven steady) caddy struggles to do less than 40mpg no matter how you drive it, drive sensibly on A-roads and you'll see over 50mpg (real figures) in my time with the van (97,000) i've averaged 42mpg, if the T6 can get within 5mpg of that figure it'll be ok.

Getting around 38mpg average with the MFD now, not manually calculated it yet and don't think I want to now. I do the same journey everyday with hardly any traffic, with cruise control on, 35 miles on an empty dual carriageway, a bit up and down and drive at 65-70mph. The average varies from 34mpg to 43mpg ??????? maybe a regen thing going on or air temperature or headwind, fook knows, maybe its just a randon number it displays.

When I have brimmed the tank and got the calculator out, the figures are almost identical to the overall avg MPG (2) on the trip comp. The single journey readout (1) I take with a pinch of salt. It's a VW after all!

Christ Ratty.......what's under the hood? Have they slipped a Phaeton engine in by accident? Joking apart......I just don't get the lack of consistency between trip comp figures and miles versus litres consumed figures?

Yup.......agreed! Trip 1 figures are pure fantasy.......trip 2 always approx. 5mpg optimistic. Not good enough really......I know there are accurate trip comps out there and this ain't one of them!

What's annoying is I hooned my t5.1 around. Pre remap and post remap I usually got 515-550 miles to a tank every week for 5 years which is 32-34mpg.
That was acceptable with the way I drove. 70% motorway/ dual carriageway at 80. 16" and 19" wheels.

So far in the t6. Identical load, identical tyres. I'm actually driving more carefully because it's so refined and nice to relax in. 75 of the motorway. I'm getting less out of the tank.

Definately need pendle to sort the Euro 6 remap out asap.

2nd full tank used. Again 28mpg.

I'm not too bothered by fuel as my business pays for it but that's bad in comparison to the Euro 5 engine. Really bad.
Maybe cruise control uses more fuel than my attempts.

my 150ps dsg is on its second tank and its only showing 28mpg as yours is @RattyMcClelland . I have done over 600 miles so far . 25 minute runs to my factory on A roads and a bit of dual carriageway. I have been driving gently letting it bed in and free up. I am hoping it improves as the miles build.

Our T5.1 180 was regularly around 20mpg.
Our not run in 204 is around 30.

Are you spanking yours Ratty?

If in honest I have been driving it way more gently than the t5. You could say granny driving but up too the speed limit.

Same load, same tyres.

The van is on 970 miles. So let's not Jump to conclusions yet. Plus I love this van.

So nice to just jump into and drive home before I swap to the car and hit vtec with boost and single figure mpg.

That doesn't sound good as my 140 manual with 80 l tank but can only ever get 72 l in it will do just over 600 miles .
Let's hope they use some sort of running in map some do and hold the engine back but can use more fuel. My transit custom was very bad at first and uses the first few hundred miles to self set the injectors so it is important to drive it normal to help this .Mine had to be reset because of faults so I went through it again.

I'm hoping i can report back with 35mpg on Friday night, but as the trip has only read 34mpg at the end of the day, i'm thinking nearer 30 may more like it.
I've covered just over 250 miles since my fill on Monday, the needle is sat at 1/2 currently, based on the fuel the dealer had put in the van and the distance i covered prior to filling up, i reckon i should get to around 420 before adding 60 litres again. That would be a shade under 32mpg! :(

27mpg. this thing is getting worse. That's not using cruise control at all

That's not good Ratty........have you checked your fuel consumption figures the old fashioned way? If not, it's worth cross checking against the comedy MFD figure. Mine is woefully optimistic..........yours might be woefully pessimistic? As for cruise control.....you won't improve your mpg using that......you're more likely to make it worse.

another thought.......mine has been constant since I got it.......high 30's (calculated the old school way) as opposed to the MFD which generally reads between 41 and 44mpg. I bought it with 18 miles on the clock and I'm around 2000 now.......and no change.

Just a thought Ratty, but don't under estimate the possible extra drag from the bodykit and the 20's they'll both have some effect

I am measuring the old fashioned way. My trip computer says 30.3mpg, i only use that as a guide if im honest and its funny watching it go to 6mpg on hard 3rd gear acceperation.
I use an app called "fill up" to calculate the figures after every tank. I put a full tank in everytime, usually 60litres to almost empty (10litres left) which lasts around 370miles (obviously a smaller tank.)

I have done 3 full tanks now. 28.44mpg, 28.61mpg and now 27.31mpg. Just over 1300 miles on it.

I was running 275/40/19 Kumho Ecsta le sport KU39 slammed on my old Euro 5 84ps remapped by pendle to 167bhp & 250lbft. I got 520-550 miles to a tank all the time over the 130,000 miles i did on that, even using the standard steel 16s. My hire vehicle was a standard 84ps startline and i got 520-550ish miles to a tank over 4000miles i had that.

Driving style is the same. I travel the exact same roads, tyres are 275/35/20 Kumho Ecsta le sprt Ku39. Weight roughly the same as the 19s. I highly doubt the bodykit will cause the drag. The weight of the vehicle is the same as its the same equipment.

After getting around 32-35mph in the t5.1 i really was pleased to hear vw say the new euro 6 will be 15% more efficient. I was hoping for the same if not 37-40mpg.

Its just a good job its a business vehicle and the fuel goes through that.

Wheres Mr Pendle with these Euro 6 remaps.
