Future Conversion…

Hi All

I am currently spec’ing my new Kombi LWB, to place an order in next few weeks (hopefully get it by 2025….)

Anyhow, I am wanting some thoughts on electrical features and options that will make a future conversion easier in 5+ years.

Trying to identify options that are an absolute pain to retro fit and therefore better to let the factory do it…

Cheers.

I'm no expert on the wiring side of things but when producing the shortlist for our van, aircon was something very expensive/a hassel to retrofit.

Cruise control was something else important to us but I've now seen on here that it is possible to add at a later date (but I'd assume not by your average DIYer)

And whilst I didn't opt for the upgrade, the factory LED lights are popular and cannot I believe be retrofitted due to the wiring looms being different. (However you can get after market ones from Transporter HQ if you can get hold of a pair.)

Good luck with your choices and if you get chance, hire a few vans with different builds to understand what is important to you.

What he said!

All very sensible factory options….and oh how I wish had ticked the LED option! Yes you can get aftermarket options, and yes they’re cheaper. But the factory option does seem to look better IMO. Aircon and ACC were on my list and def worth having

You can get a second battery installed from the factory. There are options that aren't on the configurator too. If you speak to a decent sales rep at your van centre they ought to be able to talk you through them, or a converter.

Fantastic. Thanks all.

Quite mind boggling with things like..

Preparation for interface for external use with terminal block

Which I don’t know what it is… And other preparation bits and alternator/ battery upgrades that I didn’t think I needed..

Fair point to talk through with dealer. Just wanting to go in prepared rather than passing them a blank cheque book.

Cheers again all.
