Glow plug flashing, start stop error, P003E(B8) error code.

I’ve got a new error on the van and wondering if anyone else has managed to sort this.

Glow plug light flashes and ‘start stop error’ message on the dash. Seems to come on once I get over about 2.8k revs so quite early on in a drive then the light stays flashing (although if I turn the engine off and back in again the light stays off). I tried clearing the error with an OBD and it comes back.

Van drives fine with no symptoms other than a flashing light on the dash.

Error code details:

P003E(B8) [0x003EB8]
Intake camshaft profile control A, bank 2 - performance problem or stuck off
Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Test failed since last DTC clear, Warning indicator requested

Any ideas?

Thanks

Update: Carista is giving a different code to the other OBD (Euro Car Parts) reader. Carista reckons it is P164B00 oil pressure switch malfunction.

Could be the oil pressure limiter switch - releases oil pressure when it gets too high at the higher revs, especially when cold.

i`ve had the same issue

i`ve had the same problem, but i had P164B00 oil pressure switch malfunction error on my carpal
today i`ve managed to change the oil pressure sensor and it seemed to fix the problem,no more errors or flashing coil
i`ll give it a good run tomorow

I have a similar problem on a 2021 T6.1 150. Coil light starts flashing under high load - up a motorway hill at 70 for example. Also ACC errors and Start/Stop stops working. Sometimes feel a loss of power but not always. Easing off stops the flashing. The oil temperature is reading in the 140s (Centigrade!) and the flashing seems to start when the oil gets over 150 C and stops when back below 150. This temperature doesn't feel right to me - the water temp is rock steady at 90 and it doesn't smell hot. There are no other warning lights.
I have had it diagnosed twice. The first time it reckoned the ECU had a fault and should be replaced and that the ACC fault was caused by variable battery voltage. They cleared the codes and suggested see how it goes before thinking about spending £2k on the ECU. Problem continued so tried again. This time reckoned cooling system issues and suggested a vacuum bleed of the cooling system, which was carried out. I haven't done a long fast run since so have not seen the flashing but the oil temp is still in the 140s.
I'm not really up to DIY these days so this is getting a bit expensive. I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to how to proceed

Temperature up in the 140s is too high.
Initial thoughts - either faulty sensor or blocked Oil cooler.
How quickly does the temperature go up to 140?

Perhaps you could get the temperature measured with an infrared thermometer and see how it compares with your cars temperature reading?

Good idea. I tried with the one we bought for Covid but it just says Hi at the temperatures round the engine! I'll try and find one with a better range. This morning from cold the first reading was 50 degrees after 5 minutes, up to 145 after 20 minutes. On return journey it started at 68 and went to 148 after 25 minutes.

That's registered as a fault code - perhaps you could read those - without the diagnosing it's just guessing.
While reading the codes you could also verify the actual sensor reading with a proper diagnostic tool - preferably engine cold to verify the sensor shows the same as ambient temperature.

Thanks for your help. The diagnostics I mentioned in my first post were done on ODIS by a local service centre but I don't know the codes. I see a lot of people on here use Carista - I think I might buy one to get a better idea of what's going on. Would this let me read the sensor?

Carista is basically just a fault code reader so doesn't currently read many sensors. Perhaps someone could tell is the oil temperature is now included.

However, the dongle can be used also with other software tools. E.g. Car Scanner app (even free version) does read the sensor.

I've ordered Carista so I'll let you know how I get on
