Just wanted to double check what the VGM Assistance mechanic said about an issue with my van.
Issue: When reversing into a driveway the steering become quite stiff and made a groaning noise so called the AA who sent out a 3rd party who said it was the pump and to call AA back in the morning to get them to tow it somewhere. This morning rang AA back and they sent a VGM Assistance mechanic who took a look at it. When I first turned the van on the steering was back to normal except that weird grumble when turned all the way. I drove the van back with the mechanic in tow and it drove ok just with that weird groaning noise on tighter corners. Checked the power steering fluid and seemed a little low so topped it up. When I turned it back on it seemed stiff again like the previous night unless I rev the van then it seems ok except for the noise.
The mechanic reckons it’s the power steering pump, does that sound right? And if so how much have people been charged for this in the past?
