Heated Seats defective [Merge]

It will be covered under the warranty

My drivers seat has stopped heating up, passenger side it still good.
Presume it’s the elements because the passenger seat heats up when the plugged into the drivers side electrics

The element in mine went prior to me buying them (T5 seats) and you could see where it had burnt out.

They were a retrofit so I cant comment on a warranty claim.

@Ads_Essex my seat got hotter than usual the last time I had it on, I remember thinking this is how they should have worked from the start. They’re not the best heated seats I’ve come across, in fact the ones in our 7 year old Zafira are better, even more so now

Got the van booked in for the 4th of June, this is actually the longest period that it’s not visited the dealer. It’s ramp must be getting cold

My drivers seat works intermittently
One day red hot next day v lukewarm very odd
Due for DSG service oil change soon so will ask then

Update, the van is at the dealers with the drivers seat stripped down. They had ordered in the heating pads but have decided to replace the whole seat base. Perhaps my fat *** has killed the foam

Advice really around my heated seats in my 2016 Caravelle. Single Seats are heated & airbagged, but on trying them the other day, both don’t heat up. Visual check of wiring loom under the chair & fuse is fine. I did put my multimeter and there was power at the fuse as well. The switch for both lights in the decreasing 3 step interval work.
So advice around my next step? I see there is a control unit, but where is it and any easy ways to test? Or other common faults with this system.
Thanks in advance.

Check for the power at the seat connector.

And check for seat heater resistance.

Possible damaged seat element

Hi all,

First post, looking for some advice on a repairing the heated double seat on my T5.1. Was working fine in the spring however seems to have stopped working. Voltage seems to be getting to the wiring loom which is a custom job to allow for swivel base. I suspect that one of the heat pads has a break in it.

Any tips to look at this myself or a good professional near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire?

Thanks,

Dan

Thx for the advice Dell - Have researched but which of the two connectors as i guess prodding about at the airbag one may cause me issues?

Want to get my heated double seat sorted before winter. Before I order the new heatpads, which looks to come under one part number and they're on back order, what's the best way to diagnose the fault?

Driver's seat heats fine so I'm thinking the fuse is good.

I've tried using the multimeter on the resistance setting on the cabling for both pads but not sure on my results as I'm not multimeter expert. For one, it momentarily flashes up a big number then returns to '1'. For the other, the display just goes blank when on the terminals.

Any assistance much appreciated before I spend a few hundred pounds on new heat pads.

Edit: I should point out I've got a T5.1 if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

Dan

So I bought another set of seats from another member last night. These were said to be working in that member's van. I've just tested the new double on my passenger heated seat wiring and I'm not getting any heat and still getting the left heated seat open circuit error.

Getting my multimeter out, the input from the van shows a voltage spike to ~9V when turning on the heated seat which suggests that the wiring is good up until there - I am just guessing here though. The input wiring was modified by the converter to allow for the Kiravans swivel base but I am testing voltage after their modifications here. Not sure if I need to test the earth or how I would do that.

Plugging in my original and the new seat gives no heat and throws this open circuit error. Clearing the error and trying again throws the same error shortly after.

I've currently got the seat out and hoping to get this job finished this weekend. Any chance any body can give any tips please? Not sure where to go from here as everything seems to be fine on the face of it.

One step further, tried the new passenger double plugged into the driver input from the van and it works :) So definitely some problem with the input from the passenger side, now to work out what!

Discovered what looked like some burning/melting and an intermittent loose connection in the custom connection block on the passenger side. Got the new seat heating and just tried with the original seat (after solving another issue with the folding bracket having eaten the loom) and got that working too!

Think to solve it properly I'll buy some new connectors to go through the double seat base to allow for the swivel and wire it all up. I can sell on the unnecessary new set of seats I bought too. That was a voyage of discovery!

I'm a bit further on now, but looking for help to depin this plug so I can transfer to my new loom on my backrest. I managed to depin the matching male connector but can't seem to depin this - any tips? I've ordered a more comprehensive set of depinning tools to try but not arrived yet. In the pic above to tool needs turning 90 degrees

I imagine the plug needs opening first, theres the physical plug lock then theres the crimps pins holding it in
Will see if i can find an example to show you but look for a way to hinge open the back end of the housing

Heres a couple examples, second ones prob most relevant to you

The crimp inserts go in and lock into the plug with the metal barbs either side then the plug snaps shut and a piece of plastic physically 'double locks' the inserts in place

I've yet to have a go with that connector, been concentrating on the main bit of the task.

I now have the seat reassembled with a new set of connectors (as per @RunDSG's idea at Folding passenger seat - heated? Swivel?) between the swivel seat base (the lowered Vankraft base) and the van and repaired the backrest wiring that the Vankfraft folding bracket had eaten - all working now. Soldering cup connections was new to me so struggled a bit with that and what remained of the backrest heatpad loom was very short so that was tricky to work with, extended using butt connectors.

I still need to tidy up the wiring inside the seat base, just using Tesa tape for now. Also the wiring to the backrest isn't as good as with the OEM bracket as the Vankraft bracket is missing some holes where cable ties can be attached to tie the wiring to - I need to do some more work on this I think, don't want another loom being eaten by the bracket!

Hope this is useful for someone else.
