Very noticeable at low speed, say approaching an island, gearbox is in 3rd. As soon as I touch the brake there’s a heavy clunk as the clutch? Disengages drive. You can feel it shake the whole van.

Should I be worried?

Gotta say both my DSG vans have a slight clunk when disengaging.... But it's slight.

Could it' be engine or gearbox mounts?

Does it still it in forward and reverse?

Can you get a cam vid clip of the various engine mounts.?

...

I've also had a similar sound diagnosed as the front suspension drop links

Just some ideas to look into .

.edit:

CV joints and driveshafts have also been mentioned as possible cause.

Thanks Dell. You’re right, there has always been a bit of an audible knock but never as loud as it is now. You can feel it through the seat. Gonna drop in the dealers while it’s still under the all in one

Go idea...

When I took mine in I asked for the tech to come out with me..

So we could drive around the carpark, on that occasion he said my clunk was to down with the drop links.

So a small test drive with the tech is a good idea...

Here is a link to when I took mine in for the clonk.

It's on the ramps this afternoon to have the gearbox removed. VW are requesting photo's and I've had to wait for the ramp to become free in the stealers. Apparently they've got the parts in already, they are adamant it's the DMF that's causing the clunk and the starting issues. I'm not sure myself. I've not had any of the associated rattles and wobbles on starting of a faulty DMF.

Watch this space.....

hmm. . . DMF eh.

we if it not the DMF, at least you will have a new one on the van. - I've had a few now, they measure the slop/play in the springs.

but as you know when the springs go weak you can hear it rattling like a tractor in Park & Natural.

oooh pants. . . thats not good.

they given you a price for a new DSG box ( + DMF )?

you think the DSG map had anything to do with it?

do you drive the van like a race car? or conservative.. . as in, is driving style a factor to it failing?

or just a case of the DMF failed stuck, which put extra load onto the drive shaft splines and the DSG box.

do you tow anything?

what you going to do now?

+++++++

i suppose this is a good reason not to have any remaps when your still in any kind of warranty.

No price yet because they can’t read the exact gearbox part number/code because of the TVS software so that needs put back to original then they can give me a price

Don’t tow anything and pretty much drive like miss daisy.

That's such a bugger, but it's the dealers get out clause, even though the software wouldn't have caused the issues. I know it doesn't help, but software can be reset before going in for future checks

I know Oli. Could kick myself for not removing it but tbh I forgot I’d had it done

The DSG just replaced in the Bus was circa 8k parts and labour (2024/25)... Under all in warranty.
