Help For A Caravelle First-timer

Hi, I'm posting hoping to get some advice on Caravelles.

It looks like we definitely want a DSG box, but other choices are up in the air.

I've read that the biturbo engines get broken by EGR valve failures, is this the common feeling?

I've also read that retrofitting options is difficult and expensive.

Are electric side doors a gimmick or do they change your life?

Is it better to go for the 140 engine or is a 180 likely to get similar economy with a gentle foot?

Any help welcomed.

If the EGR spits its dummy it’ll cause various problems regardless of bi or single turbo variants.
You mention a 180, but that is equally a bi-turbo; it is the euro5 version of the 204 (euro6).
I have a 180 bi-tdi, love it, had no issues (touch wood).

I have a T5.1 180 bi-tdi. It’s so bad that I went and bought a T6 204
