HELP! Main fuse gone?

Have you checked the main fuse near the battery?

When you get in there, could you take some photos please. There don’t seem to be many (any ?) on the forum.

This is going to be interesting ands frustrating - just went out and plugged the mains in to charge the leisure battery. As I was fumbling around in the dark on the left hand side of the engine bay by the battery I saw the headlights flash!
So I finished connecting the mains and then pressed the unlock button of the key fob and ...... the van unlocked. I locked it remotely and then unlocked it remotely. The interior lights worked when I open the drivers door. The instrument panel lit up when I put the key in and turned on the ignition. Fantastic - Then....
I turned the ignition key to crank the engine and everything went off again - no lights, no remote locking no instruments, no interior lights?
Very puzzling - poor or loose connection somewhere?

I once had a similar situation on my T5 where the battery earth lead had frayed at the connector and there were only a few strands connected. I found this out the same as you by knocking against something.

Always check the date on the batteries when you buy and ask them to be tested I’ve been caught out to many times with shite batteries, if you buy from a decent place they will have a decent battery tester and won’t mind checking them I always get mine done as if you take back for warranty they always test them, same with tyres alway check your dates when you buy

It seems unlikely to be a fuse doesn’t it, if a fuse has gone you wouldn’t get this intermittent issue?

sounds more like a loose connection, the main negatives are to the left in front of battery and down a bit, think theres another one under/behind the passenger headlight, theres a good chance one of these is loose/corroded

On a slight side note when i went into my ebox i noticed one of the fuse bolts was loose and nipped it up so its possible a factory connection could be undone ?

Cheers. Feels like I should carry a few spares of these.

So I found the problem and Pauly was on the button. Having taken the battery out (had to remove the portion which also had the split charge relay on it) I had a better view of things and ..... Yes the negative cable to the body connection, way down in the engine compartment, was totally loose. In fact the securing nut was almost falling off and probably would have if I could have started the van and travelled a few miles. Tightened this up fully and all is perfectly good now.
Whats has made me a bit angry is that this connection would be down to the dealership when they fitted the new engine last September so no wonder I have been having starting issues all this time.
All I have left to do now is find out why the cruise control is not functioning - checked the fuses and all are ok so wondered if it might be a programming issue - again has the dealership 'unticked' a box?
Thanks for all your suggestions everyone - really helpful and good to know there is always someone out there will ing to try to help:)
