Hi everyone, loving the forum for all the help and support. Unfortunately I need some help please.

2018 204 CXEB kombi on 38k with manual transmission

It’s been in my garage for a few months as it threw a code relating to a stuck turbo. As we were in the middle of moving and house renovation it got pushed further down the list of priorities! Anyway, fast forward to now and a friend who’s pretty good with diagnostics traced the fault to the boost sensor (G447) at the top of the engine which was then replaced. A further scan resulted in a replacement fuel pressure sensor (G247) and the other boost sensor on the front of the engine (G31). There were also stop start codes and ABS codes. A new battery and an ABS sensor were next on the list. Any way I’m left with a van which still has more codes! I don’t really want to ask my friend to help any more as he’s really busy and his mum is not very well.

So if I could possibly please ask for some help. I’m an electrician by trade so have an understanding of electrical stuff and have restored a few aircooled cars to show standard so have some mechanical experience. I have a foxwell scanner but I’m going to buy vcds as I’m sure it will come in handy with the other vw’s we own.

I’ll update once I’ve done the scan with vcds.

I’ve already removed the battery and revealed the ECU so I’m ready to get stuck in with some continuity tests..

31391 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96) - P0105 00 [035] - Malfunction
It's part of the combined mass air flow sensor right after air filter.

However, I believe the fault below is the one to start resolving the issues - because it's the circuit supplying reference voltage to various sensors thus I wouldn't be surprised if it would be contributing to all the faults. Including the ABS faults as they are referring to missing data from various sensors in/around the engine.

Brilliant, many thanks. I’ve downloaded the wiring diagrams on here and I’m working my way through them with regards to the common sensors you mention above. It’s quite atask but I’m sure if I approach it one step or cable at a time I’ll get there. Im quite disappointed with the quality of the wiring to these sensors, the cables are very thin and some have very little slack which might cause breakages?

What is the condition of your battery, especially if it has been sitting for a while. A battery in poor condition can cause spurious faults.
Battery was recently replaced like for like and I’m keeping it charged as necessary with an intelligent charger.
 
So as VCDS has arrived and i have a quiet afternoon I've began the learning process! please be gentle!

Battery voltage is 12.8v
confirmed that the voltage is good to the main fuses under the battery and the earth is good to the earth point alongside the fuses.

LHS headlamp has been removed to gain access.

there now seems to be a third engine fault showing (16097 - Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247)

31391 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96) - P0105 00 [035] - Malfunction
It's part of the combined mass air flow sensor right after air filter.

However, I believe the fault below is the one to start resolving the issues - because it's the circuit supplying reference voltage to various sensors thus I wouldn't be surprised if it would be contributing to all the faults. Including the ABS faults as they are referring to missing data from various sensors in/around the engine.

im gobsmacked at how much info is in there! totally amazing. if im working on my aircooled engines i pull a spark plug, get out the strobe and check the valve clearances!!

im studying the wiring diagrams that I've downloaded from here atm trying to get my head round some of the common connections

Well, the 4.999 Volts seen here is the mentioned reference voltage. Unfortunately here it means that there is likely a wiring issue because the voltage here should be "down modulated" by the sensor. Now the ECU sees "open circuit".

E.g. a couple of random samples from my logs to demonstrate what to expect - never the 5.000 Volts:
1015 mbar = 4.109 V​
1008 mbar = 4.075 V​
1004 mbar = 4.065 V​
996 mbar = 4.031 V​
981 mbar = 3.978 V, etc​

Anyways, the IDE07734 pressure value is a filtered value which doesn't immediately respond to voltage changes - as seen here, the reading doesn't correspond to 4.999 Volts. Probably the 960 mbar is value from memory before the fault - current air pressure in Pembrokeshire is 1029 mbar :geek:



VCDS auto scan with ignition on.

Hmmm.... all the faults have a line indicating quite low voltage - about 10 Volts - which could have caused all kinds of consequences.

there now seems to be a third engine fault showing (16097 - Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247)

Hmmm.... short to plus, quite often means simply missing ground connection. Perhaps start with this one as fuel pressure 2366 bars is plain wrong reading. Would be close to 0 bar when engine is stopped.

Have you tried to clear the faults and see what remains?

a subsequent scan seems to have near normal voltage values. I will check the block data again now.

Yes, the fuel pressure is now correct in the blockmap.
But the IDE07735 (Air filter outlet: pressure sensor) still reads out plain 4.999 Volts in both blockmaps so a disconnect there.

I don't believe getting the blockmap data interferes the engine - as I'm collecting data full time from engine and never seen any faults initiated by data collection.
 
My wifi has dropped out in the garage! Bloody typical! Have to run back and forth to the house to get online. Please bear with me.

Nice one thanks. I’m checking out the wiring to the G71 as we speak. Also trying to find engine connection no19. As well as the ‘engine prewiring earth points’ 486 & 487
