Hi! New joiner from Kent

Names Al, currently in Kent.
Just got a lovely ‘16 plate in dark grey and weirdly so happy about it!
Change in career led to looking for a van, the dealers were all trying to sell me their fords & Vauxhall’s etc. and trying their best to talk me out of a vdub...lolz.

Had Mk1 + 2 x mk2 GTI’s, 2 x mk6 golfs ( one GT one estate), 2 x t2 vans ( one panel one camper) a crew cab, a beetle.. now the happiest t6 owner in Kent!
Looking forward to joining in the shenanigans

Thanks guys =)
( do we give each other the vw wave like the old buses do ) ?
or just a smug grin & half nod as we pass ?

Welcome @Al-greyt6! I would be happy with any sort of response from a fellow T6 (or any Transporter) round these parts... having said that, my 8 year old son always gets a wave when he is with me, even from commercial vans!

Hello all.
my name is Ron and I live in kent. Soon looking to move to north Devon.
i work for British Gas.
I have 4 motorbikes and a mk 5 ford cortina.
I don’t yet have a t6 but looking to get a T6 lwb Kombi
plan is to fit a bed system line and carpet it out.
been looking on here for a while now so gathered a little bit of info.

looking forward to meeting likeminded people when we have a van.
stay safe
Ron

Welcome. Nice cortina! You don’t see many of those on the roads these days

Good luck with your search

So we have taken the plunge and ordered a conversion from Platinum Wave Campers which should be ready at the end of the month.

Much stalking has been done on here and all over the internet to make up our minds but impatience got the better of me in the end!
Added to the van a front splitter with some red 'bits', red details on wing mirrors, red floor and blinds in the van, black leather seats with red bentley stitching and some side bars.

Pretty sure that once we get going there will be more that we NEED to do!!

For now, we are making do with campsite searches and planning our first weekends away now all the children have left home and it's just us and the dogs.
Can't wait!!

The bit between ordering and picking up the van is the most dangerous (i.e. expensive) bit

Welcome to the forum!

Looks great. I'm looking at Platinum Wave Campers at the moment, they have some nice vans in stock and I can't find any bad comments about them on here. Have you taken delivery of your van and were you pleased? Thanks, Ben

We have had it for a few months now and love it!
We had a tiny issue with some trims and they came to Kent to collect the van, took it away and returned it all sorted
We couldn’t praise them enough

@CAB totally agree!! Its scary what you spend. I think I spent over a grand before we picked it up from the dealers, and we were due to collect this afternoon but due to me being in Italy with a little issue of Covid + we wont be collecting yet!
That cost is escalating by the week too! Dont tell the Wife..;)

@hatjoepeg I have just put down a deposit with Platinum Wave Campers and they're going to source me a donor van. Can I ask, did you have a gas locker and which layout did you go for?

Canterbury layout with a multi rail and a few other ‘bits’!
Didn’t bother with the oven as we wanted a bit more storage space. When it went back they I asked them if they could put an extra shelf in the tall low level cupboard which would suit us better but they didn’t have time SO they sent the van back with a great big off cut of the material so I can do it myself.
Yes to the gas locker, it is big enough to ram a few other bits in too!
We, have added a removable tow bar (already owned a bike rack that went on a tow bar) and went for an air awning that suits us and the dogs perfectly.
Bed is very comfy, we have a 50mm Duvalay topper that we store on the pop up bed and bring down to use. We haven’t slept in the top yet but my daughter and her over 6ft boyfriend went off for a week and said that was very comfy too!
I can safely say we are total converts, and this forum has been great for info on all the extra things I NEED!!E8A41AEC-FE32-4762-84CB-0610DCAA53CB.jpegD4E41E52-FEA8-4039-93B1-B1DFBCD10C49.jpeg

I love the black and red combination! That awning looks great too. I've got to fill out the spec sheet but it's scary how quickly it all adds up!! There's not much info on Platinum Wave on this forum but you have given me some confidence, thanks.

Hi Folks,

The proud owner of a2016 converted T6 called Sally. She was built by the Dub Hut near Ashford in early 2020, and now lives with us in deepest darkest Kent.

For me this fulfilled a life time ambition to own a campervan. And naturally Covid restricting play, but sure things will improve in the years ahead.

I spent years researching and visiting different convertors. What changed for me was hiring a van for a week from Big Blue Campers near Maidstone in Kent. The owner Nick told me where he got his vans from, which ones he liked the build quality of, and which he didn’t. He even technically introduced us to the Dub Hut who are converting his fleet extension plans.

All I can say is happy to final own Sally.
