Independent Garages in Devon / Cornwall

Hello.

As the title suggests, has anyone got any reccomendations for a good garage for my just out of warranty T6 204TSi. East Cornwall or West Devon.

My thoughts on the VW dealers I have dealt with over the last 3.5 years.

SMG Croydon: Bought New 2018 & first 2 years servicing. Straight talking, no bullshit; helpful & accommodating. Would Recommend for anyone South London.

Carrs in Cornwall: 1 major service; Arrogant arseholes; have't got time to list all problems & issues. Safe to say I would never give them another pound of mine Ever & Never Ever recommend anyone else to either.

Snows Plymouth: 2 services & small warranty work: All good. Happy to help & no problems. I will use them again if no better suggestions come along.

Point 1. 100% agree about Carrs.
Point 2. A close contender for Carrs of Cornwalls title IMO.
Probably a result of not having to work too hard to generate business.

Try Colebrook Transporters - Campervan Conversions
Personally I’ve never used them but others have and rated them highly.

I have dealt with Colebrook a couple times and they seem pretty decent, they are half conversions and half mechanics so cover most bases and have a good reputation

Mate. Talk to Volkscraft they are mustard they know their stuff. Very helpful will talk you through anything I use them loads. My first choice to go.

Hi all, my van is coming up for 4 years old, and I've been advised to do cambelt & w/pump with the service. With the loan car for the day, the whole deal is over £1,000 and that's not even including the MOT !
Can anyone recommend a good VW specialist in Devon/Cornwall (western Somerset) area that I could go to instead ?

Any indie mechanic can do this. Its easy stuff. Parts only cost around £150-200. Total cost around £300 fitted.
Had 2 done recently. Contact Eddie based near Ashcott, Somerset on 07977 462805

I think you could delete the word "possibly" unless it's been done already.

I have read that on the continent they recommend 10 years 120000km. I had a Skoda Octavia cam belt changed at 80000miles and 9 years. Other than being a bit shiny on the flat side it was perfect. It would be nice to have a graph of failures against time rather than fear of catastrophe.. After all it is not just the cost but the unintended consequences of having the work done.

I agree to a large extent, VW UK recommend a new cam belt at 4 years and / or 120K miles, I did mine at 5 years and just under 40,000 miles, each of us that goes beyond VW UK recommendations takes our own risks with cam belts.
If you fancy reading 22 pages on the subject.............

Hi I have a 2016 t6 camper it done about 39k, up until now I’ve had it serviced at Snows in Plymouth (ex VW van dealer) but I’m now looking for an independent garage that’s good with t6 I’m near Launceston so as far as Exeter would work.
The van had a cam belt fairly early so I’m not sure on getting that done again I’m guessing from the new recommendations that I could miss that but might change it for peace of mind at 8 year old.

Your thoughts or recommendations appreciated
Thanks

If you,re willing to go as far as Exeter then Mal-VW at Truro is about the same distance and will do service and habitability checks as well. Google him.

We talked with Mal-VW when we had the van converted but went elsewhere, I didn’t realise that they carried out service work.
Thanks I’ll have a look at them again
