'Inspection Now' message

Hi my van is almost due the 20000 mile inspection, I rang up local dealer and he said it is a service, I thought it got serviced at 25000 miles?
I have a service plan and don’t want them using my plan unless it is a service and not an inspection as I thought.
Any help appreciated

The van adjusts its own service schedule dependant on usage/driving style etc so its not a 100% set time/distance
Mine asked for service around 22-23k

Yes, I was concerned about oil services too, she had done 22k and still nothing on the dash to tell me a service was due. I called the dealer and they assured me that the van would tell me when.... low and behold, a couple of weeks later service message pops up. She went in for an oil and filters change, pollen filter and the recall work on the auxiliary belt and tensioner.

It all depends on how you drive and so how dirty the oil gets before the sensors flag up a change ( I have no idea how they do that!)

I also have a pre pay service plan, the service included the inspection on all the other points.

Regards

I still believe 20k is too long to go between services, thats a lot of work for the oil to do. I change the oil and filter (genuine filter and mobile 1 ) every 10k then dealer service at 20k wether it asks for it or not. Did the same on my E Class and when I sold it with 265k on the clock it ran perfect.

Was going to ask the same thing. I was thinking a simple oil and filter change every 10k ish ? Bought mine will 11k on the clock and don’t want to leave it 20k plus without an oil change. Guess I’m old Skool but oil is still oil ?

Done 27k on mine. Oil change at 10k and 20k. Will do a big fluid change etc at 30k.

20k oil change......bye bye turbo bearing.

I do what you would think was perfect driving to ensure longer life between services- 5 days a week I do a 50 mile journey to and from my place of work with 80% of the distance done at at steady speed between 50-70mph (i.e fast A road and motorway). I do almost no stop-start driving and very few short journeys and don't wring its neck on acceleration (never above 3k rpm). I have had my van serviced twice now at between 16.5k and 17k miles each (now on 43k miles). I have no idea what driving conditions would stretch the intervals out beyond 20k miles. I do agree that 20k miles is pushing it for turbo longevity etc.

I think it’s all down to new fully synthetic oils. They just do not degrade in the same way as standard mineral oils, the engine is built to use fully synthetic, with its increased viscosity and ability to sustain high temperatures.
I remember changing oil on my Hilman Imp and moggy 1000 every 3000 ( and big end bearings every 6k!). Certainly technology has come a long way!,

I do the same. 10k oil and filter (genuine parts) and 20K at the dealer. Might be old school but I paid a lot of money for this van and it won't start to show the problems with bad service intervals till its out of warranty. For £100 extra every 20k miles i think its money well spent.

I have just ad my first service by vw at 12000 miles, and I have done a oil and filter change myself when it was on 6000 miles.
I will be keeping mine until I'm to old to drive so hopefully another 20 yrs or so.

When I asked vw about the other filters they said air and fuel at 60,000 .............not on my watch!!

I know its over kill , But then I am old school , and it keeps me happy

Every 10K or 1 year here too with the second service done at a VAT registered VAG specialist for warranty purposes.

For info, I watched a programme recently and it included a brief interview with a guy from Miller oils. He basically said change the oil at 10K max, irrespective of what the vehicle manufacturer says.

With EGRs causing soot build up and the dilution caused through DPF active regens, if you're keeping the van you should look after the oil better than VW extended services allows you to do.

20,000 miles. Sceptic or convert? You decide. (If you've got 22 minutes of life going spare)

My previous 2015 Vivaro was 70k on the fuel filters, which made no sense to me. I'm guessing that a lot of commercial owners are fleet/company vans, and they may tend to use cheaper fuel. So 70k on a fuel filter that's potentially had all sorts going through it seems a little over-confidence in such a cheap, easily serviceable part.
It makes you wonder under what conditions and circumstances the manufactures come up with these mileage changing figures.

I had mine switched from LL to T&D when it was PDI’d I also have a service plan and used up my first of 2 at 12 months old which was 7k miles, this was its first service so not fussed if the milage fell short as that 7k contained the running in etc. (I know they don’t technically need running in) but its mine and I want it to have the best...

They quoted me for a service place but due to my mileage it was daft money, but my guy gave me the first 3 services a part of the deal anyway.
To be honest, i've always serviced my own vehicles, that way I know what's really been done.

For warranty perposes obviously genuine parts but I guess make sure you use recommended oil too. Is this Mobil 1 ??

That video pretty much proves 20k is not a problem for quality oil, although they were all petrol engines
