Ouch!!

Maybe that’s a postcode issue then, as premiums will always reflect their claims experience in an area.

I paid about £250 with LV for a brand new conversion, value over £60k with a tracker fitted. Again max NCD, only difference is age as I’m over 50, and it’s garaged.

Wouldn’t have thought age and garaging would make that much difference.

I got an online quote from LV when I was planning to have coilovers fitted. Very reasonable at £380 including the suspension and existing interior changes (I'm 43 with 3 year NCB with one no claim accident - a wing mirror FFS...)
The quote was valid for 30 days but I didn't realise until day 30 that my renewal was a day later. No problem I thought, just get another quote. £525. No reason, identical quotes. Not happy as I had already cancelled my existing policy and struggled to find anyone else to cover me.

LV,as i'm sure others do,always increase the premium the nearer you get to renewal..... as i once found out.

I now try to sort my quote or renewal out at least a fortnight before it's due.

I wasn't with them! I was switching from Aviva as they wouldn't cover coilovers.
In hindsight I would've got the 30 day quote no more than 30 days from when I needed it!

Anyone used Just Campers for their insurance? I've just renewed with A-plan (14 days cooling off period) who I was most impressed with last year as a new customer but this year a bit less than impressed. Turns out I did not have agreed value for the last year as they 'forgot to press the appropriate button'!! Within the year i've had a tracker fitted (which was not a requirement of A-Plan), and front and rear dash cams and no claims in the last year and what do you know....premium still went up.
Just Campers offer a price match or a £50 gift voucher and 10% off (Think its a one off 10%).

A-plan was £300 more expensive than LV for my Caravelle. Quoted last week ! (With mods too). Have you tried them ?

5***** service from Aplan ….I’ve just been involved with my van being written off I’ve got to say the whole process was very professional and speedy … I was recovered within an hour …. Hire car in my drive 8am next day …kept in the loop throughout ….. I just want to strangle the granny that did it still

Are there any tips for sorting out insurance for the first time? We are in the process of buying a T6.1 fully converted (body kit, suspension, alloys, side bars, solar, pop top then stuff inside like bed, kitchen, lighting, hot water).

How much do you need to declare when explaining what the van actually is?

Ring round a few tell them exactly what ya got and value of all mods
I’m with Aplan just had total write off …. Took 2 months from start to finish (payout)
Declare everything ….though they are fairly chilled about it ….. an independent assessor has the final say on value in reality
A couple hundred quid is nothing if you have a smooth write off situation and when you are talking upwards of 40k

We take delivery of our new campervan conversion early March, so I’ve been doing the insurance rounds this week as preparation. Lots of good info on this forum

Our converter recommended Safeguard so I contacted them first. Quote was £520, they list our converter so the van is fully covered, 2 years new for old, all year EU cover including breakdown and the reassurance that they are specialists in campervan / motorhome insurance.

Next I tried LV as our multicar insurance policy is with them. Quote was £280 but the detail of exactly what they cover in terms of conversion fixtures and fittings was lacking, they couldn’t confirm that in writing. Also I had a nagging doubt as they insisted that the van would be stated as petrol/manual on the policy even though it’s a diesel/auto. Quite a difference in value! Apparently it wouldn’t be an issue in the event of a claim but they didn‘t confirm that in writing either so it’s not a risk I’d like to take. LV are good for car insurance in my experience and while the quote was clearly good for the campervan, I was left with too many niggling concerns that they didn’t quite get it. They also didn’t record the value of the van, just said “market value”.

My 3rd option was Comfort insurance. I called them yesterday. Quote was £341. They also recognised our converter and clearly stated that all work done by the converter would be covered. New for old for 3 years / 15k miles seemed good to me. Van valuation fully noted. EU cover for up to 9 months. £5k personal belongings cover. So I went with Comfort, cover seemed comprehensive and like Safeguard, the reassurance that they specialise in campervan / motorhome insurance worked in their favour.

Get a quote from Aplan ….just had a write off situation and was very professionally sorted …I don’t think premiums much matter when you’re talking vans of over 50k

I did contact A-Plan, they were on the list. But went with Comfort before A-Plan were able to call me back, as I was happy with the Comfort quote and cover. Also chatting to the people at Comfort gave me a good impression that they understood camper vans, not an impression I got talking to LV, another reason I went with them. I'll no doubt get a quote from A-Plan come renewal time in a year.

I called Brentacre to declare my suspension changes and it was all done in five minutes.

Was quickly quizzed on the changes and type of suspension fitted (nice to deal with a company with knowledge staff) and that was it.

Highly recommended!

Hi all, we’ve just invested in our first Campervan and we found “comfort-insurance” really helpful and very knowledgeable about converted T6 campers. Very good price too.

Also newbie campervan people here and we found the same with Comfort. Of course the real test is hopefully one we never need to experience, but I’m reassured that they seem to be very knowledgeable about the specifics of campervan conversions. Good luck with your new van.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't forget to post some pics, we love pics!

We're looking to have an Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser and ScorpionTrack S5 fitted to our conversion. Are these good options to go for, or has anyone had any experience of other similiar products which have successfully brought their insurance quotes down?
