Insurance Recommendations Please

Just working through insurance quotes at the moment, renewal with Just Kampers is out due to £950+ quote. Leader in the quotes so far is Howdens at £555, but require a S5 tracker installed.

Surely worth having an S5 tracker fitted, to save £100's a year in insurance costs, and peace of mind. Insurance companies will welcome you with open Bank accounts...

Yes the tracker makes sense, current JK policy sent me a toy tracker to fit in the van, no idea whether it still works. Getting a decent S5 seems to be around £400 inc. fitting, then a £14 per month subscription forever.

I'm currently paying £17 a month with Global Telemetrics, but Chris @Dav-Tec is the way to go with his MetaTrak. Just waiting for mine to pack up, but it seems quite happy!

Decided today to not go with the cheapest insurance quote, went with Caravan Guard instead, still £330 cheaper than last years insurer's renewal quote. Reason I chose them is that last year the policy documentation JustKampers sent me identified my van as a VW T6 campervan. No record of the specifics of the campervan build. Likewise Howdens and other companies I have been getting quotes from just identified a VW T6, or T6 campervan. Caravan Guard had a form which allowed me to specify that the vehicle in question is a VW-based Leisuredrive Vivante, and I feel a lot more comfortable with them being completely aware of exactly what they are insuring.
No mention on the form about demanding a tracker fitment, just a yes/no question as to whether the van has one.

Howdens (A plan ) wanted over a grand for my Sportline. Brentacre wouldn’t insure because they only do seriously modified vans.
I went with LV who wanted £480 including European cover and agreed value of £40k.
No need to say I bit there hand off!
Having realised my insurance is up in a month, and seeing the price they gave you, I have just tried LV, they have priced me at £633, considering I paid £890 to Adrian Flux last year, it seems a good first quote to receive!

Anyone else heard the latest speel from Brentacre... Change in policy T&C which came in January... I almost heard it but seems to be deaf again (long story). Apparently due to volume of vans being stolen it's across the board. I asked if would be same for T6/T6.1 etc and apparently so. Just need to make sure if I'm at home van is at home as well and on driveway! Not public road.. even if the public road is a private lane....

Sounds similar to what many insurers are saying about motorcycles… if your insurance says it’s kept in a garage and you take the bike out, park it on the street (to wash it or because you forgot something and popped back inside) theft is not covered if it’s taken from outside your house.
Odd because you’d think insurance covers you on all streets but it seems some companies have arbitrarily decided your own street is higher risk than every other street in the UK.

Also, if your motorcycle steering lock is not on your insurance is void but if your bike is stolen and the steering lock is broken your bike is written off because it has ‘structural damage’ to the frame because you put the steering lock on!

Yeah if parked at neighbours house per se and if that neighbours house is within line of sight of your house... And you decide to stay at your house between 10pm and 6am then van would not be covered unless it was on your driveway... Not covered if parked at neighbours... Sounds like a racket to me! If you were sat in neighbours house then I assume it would be covered!

They’re making up more and more stuff to wriggle out of paying, knowing people have no option but to buy the product - whether it’s suitable or not.

Supposedly the Government are having meeting with the industry about this and their discriminatory tactics but we’ll see. It’s all gone a bit quiet lately.

Trouble is, like oil, there is so much money in it the lobbies just get things their own way whether through gifts, legal challenges or nice words but plenty of delay.
