Their insurance quote was over £600 more than my existing company quote, plus they wanted their tracker fitting - so never got as far as discussing agreed value! So is your main insurance with AF as well as the AV policy?I thought AF were the least fussy of all! I called them with 25+ days to go until renewal, and must say they looked after me to the tune of £150 less than the year before. I claimed on a bike policy previously with them and they were so good, I can only recommend them. My bike is still with them and my daughters Fiat 500 policy before passing her test is ridiculously cheap. I'm sure they will sting us when she passes her test!
My principal insurance is with AF, including the Trinity Lane Agreed Value. We are in a 'cheap' zone for insurance though. We have an S5 tracker already and it's parked on the drive with the Mrs on the insurance too. I'm sure the 25 days before due is also a good thing worth doing. Don't leave renewing until the last minute!Their insurance quote was over £600 more than my existing company quote, plus they wanted their tracker fitting - so never got as far as discussing agreed value! It’s amazing how quotes vary from company to company!
Yeah did the 25 days thing - pretty sure AF were one of the ones who said I had to be insured through them before taking an AV policy. I’m not in a cheap zone and no tracker but am parked on a drive & Mrs on insurance. My principal insurance is with AF, including the Trinity Lane Agreed Value. AF’s quote was over £1200 with the tracker, they wouldn’t insure without it. Current insurers offer a discount for certain trackers but have to admit I’ve an irrational aversion to trackers having had one fitted in a company vehicle for 10+ years and seeing them used for nefarious reasons!I do enjoy the 'hopeful' peace of mind I have with AV on the policy, but you can certainly put a price on the additional cost of a relatively unknown quantity. My total insurance was £560 with AF, would I pay £1000 for pieces of mind? Probably. A decent tracker is worth considering, I wonder how much difference that would make to your premium?
Oh, that's odd, i've been with LV for over 4 years and renewed in November. maybe just new customers?I tried all the usual suspects, LV told me they don’t insure campervans any more (?!?) - no one came close to the company I was with last year which is Caravanguard
Only issue is they won’t do agreed value. Howden’s Thatcham gave me a quote about £300 higher and sent me their requirements to arrange agreed value but after sending them all the photos & info they requested they never came back to me.
As @Lubrown mentioned in post #18 that seems to be the case. Either that or I spoke to the wrong person! Didn’t get as far as giving details other than saying I’d like a quote for campervan insurance…Oh, that's odd, i've been with LV for over 4 years and renewed in November. maybe just new customers?
Went with Howdens in the end. Know others have had communication issues but no problems myself. They use Aviva and AXA among others, and they managed to get me a competitive price. They will allow commuting and also offer EU breakdown and insurance too.Shopping around myself now, after premium went up 50 per cent! ERS who Staveley Head used have gone under, which is why they said my premium had gone up. I can recommend Staveley Head regardless though, as dealt with a windscreen claim efficiently. Have just had a decent quote off them to be fair, but am also awaiting some better quotes back from Howdens. It's worth noting that proof of habitation check can bring your insurance down, too. Also, going with someone new may result in the interior photos faff if not an 'off the shelf' conversion.
Remember that you can get an agreed value policy through AF but not AP (Howdens). I've stayed with AF and the price with Agreed Value was £150 less than last year.I'm looking at the moment. AF have really mucked my renewal quote up. Looked at adding my daughter last year as she used the van. In the end AF did a separate policy for two weeks. Worked out better. But some how its all mucked up on the renewal quote. They close at 5.30 so have to ring from work. A real pain. Giong to try 'A' plan as well.
Our policy also has the driveway endorsment which is ok for us but a bit of a shame it has to be there at all.I just had a renewal quote from Howden of £542, £2 cheaper than last year. Às we went through the details they reminded me I had to keep my van parked in my drive ( I don't have one)
Two hours later they couldn't insure me ( 10 years no claims) They offered me another insurer at £2200!
My van is more a day van I.e. rock n roll bed with fridge swivel seat but no cooker/ sink.
Dick Turpin wore a mask!
Not from the insurer's viewpoint it isn't. It's merely a reflection of statistical probability - a van kept overnight on the roadside is more likely to be stolen, damaged or broken into than a van parked on a driveway.Kind of a nonsense...
But, without the endorsement, the van could be parked several streets away, out of the insured's view....as the van could be 10ft to the left and it would be on the street...
