Keeping reversing camera clean

@Rober
Alternatively independent washing nozzle could be mounted next to the camera and directed at the lens.

This is my option as I have a large infra red HD BlackVue camera on the back, it is used as effectively as rear view mirror, every time I get out in rain it gets a wipe, the washer jet would work well I think, just to get rid of the droplets and give a uniform covering. The glass is coated with Rain X too.

It must be the camera that comes with the Alpine HU I have. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Well, at least it works. Looking at the prices of some of the "cameras with wash jets", it isn't a priority for me just yet!

Me neither, I can think of better places to waste, spend my hard earned dosh :sneaky:

I couldn't get narrow(slender) nozzle on its own.
So I already bought complete handle with integrated camera & nozzle( £20 = €22 ).
My plan is to extract it out of the below setup and make it fit into my factory OEM camera housing.

Do you have a link for the above @Robert

Mind changed, I want to do this mod, not too sure if it will work with the aftermarket Alpine reversing camera though.

My van is filthy, (nothing new there!) particularly the tailgate, but the OE rear camera works OK, sure it's not quite as clear as when clean, but very useable, I can still see what I'm about to hit.

I have missed few settings .
I must get them activated with no further delays!

P.S. These cables appear to be tangled :D.

External comparison for exact nozzle location and positioning.

I think it is quite obvious that nozzle should be in the top LHS corner(BLUE DOT).

I was able to implement this modification by the way when I have upgraded my lowline camera to the highline version.

Basically highline camera is slightly smaller, additionally trimming off few camera housing internal glides makes more room. Then drilling one hole in the top left corner to match perfectly the diameter of the nozzle. Transparent silicone works great as a sealant and keeps nozzle & camera perfectly aligned inside of the housing.

Just to mention, silicone is easy enough to be removed in case there is a need to replace anything in the future.

Any one thought about fitting the one where it’s hidden under the vw badge. I’ve seen it on a golf I think. It would mean cutting a hole in the tailgate tho.
