Locked myself in the van!

Well, no auto lock on my camper. When I drive off the doors will lock and when I take the key out the doors open (at least that works), but cannot find/get auto lock to work. Need to look more into this, perhaps my van does not have it.

The Auto re-lock is a feature on all VAG cars/vans.

its a security feature, so when you sit on your keys in your pocket at home and unlock the van from your living room . . . . without realising.

the van will wait 30sec or so, then if NO DOOR is opened it will RE-LOCK the whole van.

BUT . . . .

if you do open ANY DOOR, it assumes the key press is legitimate and cancels the RE-LOCK feature as it assumes you are in or around the van, and stops this exact problem. (getting locked or having keys locked in the vans interior)


ie . . . in my old non vw van.

blipped the van open,

threw keys on front seat,

got tools out tailgate,

closed doors forgetting about keys,

5mins later van locked all doors with keys inside !!!! Grrr.

so can you confirm that the van is seeing all the door and boot, bonnet etc open / close?

you got VCDS? - to test door open signals?

Hi @Dellmassive the dash does show all of the doors, bonnet and tailgate when they are open.

I only have OBD11 which i don't think will do this.

So i guess i have an issue with the re-lock feature as I opened the door got in the van then it relocked with me in it.

test - try locking the van with the drivers door open - ? yes it will lock all of the other doors but not the drivers door, this remains open even when the door is closed. Also the interior sensor doesn't activate.

then re-test with the drivers door left open>? -- test it? same happens as above.

what are your results?

no tweaks on VCDS by me as I don't have it. the only tweaks i have done are via OBD11 although these shouldn't affect the central locking as they are most lights and needle sweep ect.

just tested mine,

lock / unlock / lock - all ok,

door open - unlock ok, but it will not relock with door open.

I see what you are saying, I can lock the van with the drivers door open, looking at your vid there is a problem there.

God only knows where i start to fix that problem though. I thought it was just the way the van was.

If you press the Lock button on the remote whilst a door is open, nothing happens UNTIL you close the doors, then the van will lock itself. I've fallen foul of this. Got out of the drivers door, pressed Lock, side door was still open. Got distracted, started doing something else, forgot I'd pressed lock, threw my jacket in the van with the keys inside, closed the side door...boom! Van locks me out of the van with the keys inside.

ill copy in @mmi who is the VCDS/BCM/spreadsheet master . . .

maybe @mmi might be able to point us in a direction about finding out about BCM setup wiith OBD11?


something must be diffent in your programming if you van sees all the doors open/closed?

My drivers door open, set alarm then all the other doors lock aside from the drivers door. Totally different to yours @Dellmassive

Done the same thing @Salty Spuds although if the drivers door is open and i try to lock the van, the others door lock but the drivers door remains unlocked. I close the drivers door and it stays open.

not on mine . . . it doesn't.

( The Beeping is the van alarm, i have the metasat upgraded alarm, it beeps at me and tells me when the windows or door are left open . . . but doesnt change the normal operation)

it absolutely will not lock, unless i have the keys and the doors are shut.

just retested it . . .?

I can lock the van with any door still open!!!!! All others doors lock- knackered running up and down 3 flights of stairs...........

Fyi... It has been the same for my 2 previous vans.... T5 and T5.1.

What I like is VW deadlock with one button press..


My old Vaux Traffic.... You needed to press the button twice....

Thanks for your help @Dellmassive, good to know there is a problem which needs sorting out, cant afford £100 every time my keys are locked in the van.

Watched vid but didn’t notice yours lock when door was shut after
Like this function on mine as handy when hands full so can press lock on key with all doors open then once doors are shut van locks it’s self with out pressing button again
