Locking doors from the back of the van. ~ Stop me before I do something silly

If someone has instructions for wiring an internal release for the tailgate from the inside I'd certainly love to see it.

That unlocks the tailgate but does it also release the catch so itcan push open from inside, please?
If you mean me, yes it releases the tailgate then you can push it open.

(It didn't unlock the tailgate from the inside iirc though).

Ok. Losing the plot here.
If the van is unlocked, I am inside, I can fit a push button to release the tailgate and push it open from inside.
What 2 wires in the tailgate does it need to be connected across, does it need a resistor in series?

YES

The two wires that go to the external tailgate release handle. NO resistor needed, just connect the momentary release button switch in parallel.

Thanks to all. I have fitted a push button to open the tailgate on my 2017 T6 Trendline from inside. Total cost £3.50.
As a summary:
I bought a momentary push button switch off ebay: Waterproof Stainless Steel Push Button Switch Momentary Push On 20 AMP Rated 12v | eBay
Take off the lower tailgate panel. Unclip the blue plug with 2 wires pointing towards you in the lock switch. Tee in to both wires with some old speaker cable. I soldered and taped but you could use two of the blue plastic clips.
Drill a 19mm hole in the removed panel, near the top, fit the switch. I used a switch with screw connections.
The tailgate can now be pushed open from inside.
The existing pull down strap is too far from the bed to pull the tailgate closed. I drilled 2 off 7mm holes and fitted M5 rivnuts in the upper centre of the lower panel steel framework. I have a home-made tool to fit the rivnuts, but a cycle shop could do it. They are used for cycle bottle-cages. Rather than use the semi-rigid VW strap (well, in truth, because I have lost it), I used nylon webbing from a day bag ( like seatbelt webbing but narrow). Tidied over the webbing screws (M5 x 35mm csk) with lining felt.
Tidy job and cheap.
Thanks again for the information that showed me the way.

Think it best to start with video and work backward :)

This is where the disclaimer goes. This is what I did, no idea if safe or allowed so best to check before you even think about trying it out.

I took the lock/unlock switch apart to find out how it worked.

Basics are when unlock is pressed it connects the yellow wire to earth. When lock is pressed it connects the yellow to earth via a 7686Ω resistor.

Next step was to piggy back the existing yellow wire direct from the BCM. I took this new wire from the BCM and an Earth to a breadboard. Then attached two switches and to get the resistance spot on I used a 501 potentiometer and 1K resistor in parallel. (As the resistor on the switch board was an 86A with a 1% tolerance.)

When I hit the buttons and the switches worked a treat. :grin bounce:

As a test, I played about with the resistance values switch fails about +- 10 % 850 690.

Good news is there is no need to faff about the resistor VW use is a standard one. I have ordered 5 from Ebay £2.36 delivered, will post up a pic and circuit drawing when they arrive.

Great work Willoughby.

Do you (or anyone) know if this will work on the T6.1?

(T6.1 has a lock/unlock button on the drivers door, enabled even when ignition is OFF)
