Looking to buy!

Hi all!
I'm new here so firstly I apologise for the long post.... but I may as well get it all out of the way.
I'm at a point where I'm looking at 'investing' in a low mileage (50k) transporter to own for its entire useable life. I'm guessing that as I'm looking for one with such low mileage that it will end up being a T6. As I'll be using it for the 3 things that transporters are designed for (moving things, moving people and sleeping in) I'm open to any variation (panel van/ shuttle etc) but am - at the moment- swaying towards the kombi. A couple of things I think are a must for me are that it has to have a tailgate, be lwb and dsg gearbox. I'm no stranger to 'modding' so everything else should be fittable further down the line. Does anyone know the state of wiring harnesses in the different models/ years/ trim levels? I've found over the years on other vehicles, different things. Some manufacturers seem to fit a full wiring harness that 'extras' are just plugged in to and others seem to fit specific harnesses depending on luxury level.
Also, anyone point me in a direction of what is good to look out for when wanting to do future conversions or mods?
I have been a member of other vehicle forums and found them to be a wealth of information, so I thought I'd come here before heading out to a garage/ dealer / private sale to buy one.
Thanks for all your time.

Welcome.
If you can live without heated screen and seats, and glass in the rear quarters, look at a shuttle. MFSW, parking sensors, folding mirrors, soft close doors, etc can be added. Check out VW used vans site.
If you have deep pockets get a kombi with all the toys you want.

It seems that most things are programmable on the T6, with some wiring and switches added.

Welcome to the forum Wilko. And I'm sure other posters more knowledgeable about your various questions than I am will give you the answers that your looking for.
And remember to post pics of your Van once you manage to find one.
I have a 67 Kombi Highline which has done 19K. It has DSG which I love. In fact I wouldn't buy another Van without it. The AC is a must too...

Thanks for the reply mate. I do love my toys. Heated seats is definitely something I'd be looking to have. I wouldn't mind fitting them.... but it's just I know wiring harnesses can be a swine to fit/ find.... never nine switches etc.
The main problem is that I don't have deep pockets....

Cheers mate. I'm hoping to be a regular... although I'm in no rush (except for the fact that I think I have stumbled upon my ideal van) to get a van. I'll let the right one find me.... as they say.
I certainly will post pics when I get one.
My last car was just a standard auto and I miss having one... but I'm aware the VW DSG's have a good reputation so I'm hoping for the best.

I would check out the various bits you want and when you think you’ve got the list post it on here and I am sure members will give you guidance as to if you have missed anything that is a ‘must have’ off. Such as LED headlights. Also check out the various build threads for ideas, options, etc. Good luck.

I want ALL the bits! Doesn't everyone?
The one I'm eyeing up at the moment has the factory xenon... which I'm totally happy with. I've fitted a set on another vehicle Inc. Washers and level sensors. It was a dog.... but doable.... so if the worst comes to the worst......
I'm browsing round the forum as we speak looking for ways to skint myself (more)

Hi All, I'm a newbie - on here and in the T6 world generally.. apologies if I am hijacking this thread and feel free to kick me off to start my own if better! I'm jumping in because I'm also in the market for a Kombi and veering strongly towards the Edition. I've seen one in good nick externally but with 143K mileage at £23k, and a few other £30-35 (all 150bhp) with far more reasonable miles! Bearing in mind that I won't be doing any work myself because I have no skills or tools, is the £23k option crazy? And is it even worth anything like that? (It will come with a service and years MOT). Its not DSG either.

If you're converting it, then buy a panel van. Saying that I have a kombi & it is a nice thing. Given how much conversions cost, I'd want decent base van.

It's going to be up for sale once I sort out a caravan with issues. Taking this thread even more off-topic.

I might want to convert it down the line but right now I want it as a mover of stuff, and a day van (maybe with a mattress thrown in the back), and it will be my only set of 4 wheels for general use.

Mine has an Exploria bed in the back, which is ideal & acts as a robust parcel shelf.

So a kombi would be great for you.
