No. I try to keep everything as simple as possible and iterate if I need to. So far I have not felt the need for 360 camerasHave you installed the 360 cameras? I’d be interested to see how well they work on a Transporter
Depends which wires are missing I suppose! You could look at a pin diagram for the harness and work it out.I've just ordered the same head unit for my T6, I sent the seller photos of my factory head unit and the factory connector, they've sent me a compatible cable (head unit still in the post) but it's got less wires than my factory connector, have I been sent the wrong one?!?
Install them after the first prang ehNo. I try to keep everything as simple as possible and iterate if I need to. So far I have not felt the need for 360 cameras![]()
Thanks for the review! Would you keep us updated if you decide to switch out for an aftermarket DAB aerial? Did you need an adapter to connect the OEM aerials (both DAB and FM)?I too have installed the same unit in my T6. Initial impressions are as follows (good first):
Canbus integration works great with the headunit switching to night mode when the lights are switched on and auto starting the camera when reverse is selected etc.
The optional Sony reverse camera is great. Very clear and works well at night (vehicle did not have an OEM reverse camera).
Unit feels very responsive / snappy and is easy to navigate.
Option to install all your normal android apps with big storage (I went for the 512 GB model).
Connects to Bluetooth ODB adapter. Very handy for native Torque and VAG DPF apps.
SIM card supported so you can run all your apps without needing to use your phones data. Can also act as a hotspot. Handy if using a different network in your phone, and in a black spot where the headunit might have signal.
Now for the not so great bits:
Wrong quad lock connector initially supplied. Managed to source the correct one from a UK supplier no problem though.
FM reception not as good as the OEM stereo despite installing an amplifier (amplifier made a big difference).
DAB reception also not as good using the optional usb adapter. I heard this is a common complaint with Android headunits in general. Weirdly, the DAB app seems to make a big difference to reception quality as well. I found DABdream to be the best. I am using the OEM wing mirror antenna for now.
Sound quality is hit and miss. It's fantastic with Spotify and other Apps but FM and DAB (even in good reception areas) seems to be slightly lacking.
This is a negative or positive based on opinion I guess, but there's almost too many sound settings to adjust. I think this makes it overly complicated to find the "sweet spot". I'm sure it's great for audiophiles, but to the layman with limited time to tweak, it seems overly complicated. Some tweaking is necessary in my opinion because none of the default EQ settings seem "right" for the OEM speakers.
Overall, I'm quite pleased, and I think most of the above niggles can be ironed out with some tweaking and possibly an aerial upgrade.
Yeah no worries. I'm not sure if I will install an aftermarket aerial or not as don't fancy drilling a hole in the roof. For now I've been using the BBC sounds app and running it natively on the headunit for listening to radio. This works great as long as (obviously) you've got a data signal. Thanks for the review! Haven't tested this myself (don't have the unit yet), but I've come across this doing some research. Seems to be the case. I'm wondering how the audio routing would work in that case (e.g. audio fpr the video routed via the usb-c and radio on the speakers for instance?)This model has been on the radar for my T6 a while, however i am still trying to get confirmation if it can run in a dual screen configuration (typically where you have a screen in the rear of the vehicle watching one thing, eg netflix, but keeping the head unit screen for something else, sat nav for example).
Good info, for me the audio is not a real concern, i'd be happy if everything comes through the speaker outputs as my use for the 2nd screen would be the digital dash, so it's all in the cab anyway.Haven't tested this myself (don't have the unit yet), but I've come across this doing some research. Ooooh, I see where you're going with this... Hadn't thought about thatGood info, for me the audio is not a real concern, i'd be happy if everything comes through the speaker outputs as my use for the 2nd screen would be the digital dash, so it's all in the cab anyway.
