I usually just wait till Costco has an offer & get Michelins all around. This will be the first time I need to tyre the Caravelle - is there anything better suited to the van?
Standard alloys 235 / 55 / 17 all round

I’m a big fan of the Michelin Cross Climate tyres…. we’ve got them on the Mrs’s Golf and I had them in your size (235/55/17) when I was on 17” wheels and they were very comfortable and quiet. I’m now on 235/50/18 obviously with 18” wheels and the same with them…. comfortable and quiet. I’ve put over ten thousand miles on them and they still look like new. To be honest I can’t see myself having any other tyre now.

+1 for this!!

Michelin are good but don’t discount the other premium brands. I’ve got all-season tyres on all 3 vehicles and have ended up with Michelin CC on one, Continental All Seaons on the van and Goodyear Vectors on the other. They are all pretty similar in performance and I would happily go with any of them again and just get the best value ones at the time (same would be true of summer tyres too). If anything the Contis are probably fractionally better but it’s difficult to be definitive about that as they are on different vehicles.

Yeah my tyres are getting replaced again by Camskill tyres . Michelin x climate 2s . 235/55/18 103 current offer is £60 quid of a set of 4 . I was going to try Goodyears but went with what I knew. I have had mine 2 years now so they were getting close to the limit.

How many miles in 2 years Paul? My CC2's have done 6000 since fitting and they genuinely still look brand new.

I've been trying to wear out a set of Devanti Wintoura + (on my Canteras) for 2.5 years, 23000 miles, and they were on the wheels when I bought them, so i can get a set of all season tyres. They still have over 5mm of tread left according to the MOT at start of the month.

What's the correct tyre speed rating ? My near-dead tyres show 235/55ZR17. Looking at Michelin Cross Climate on blackcircles.com, the ratings are H, T, V, W, and Y

Gotcha.. you'd think I'd know this by now.
Only Michelin at my spec at Costco is ' Michelin PRIMACY 4+'
Do these compare ok to CrossClimate?

Total different tyre. The Primacy is a summer oriented tyre whereas the CC is an all-season tyre. The CC is good if you get cold conditions with some snow and ice and want a bit of grip in slippy conditions but don’t need full winter tyres. They are fine in summer too. The Primacy is a great ‘normal’ tyre if you don’t need the above. Will give slightly better economy, wet braking and lower noise than the CC.

I’ve got these as a summer tyre and they’re spot on, for comfort and noise, as well as wet performance.

If you’re only looking to run one set of tyres all year round then go get the crossclimates, as these are great all year round, not just when the temps are 9deg plus.

I'm a long term fan of the CCs on the XC70s and recently updated the Caravelle to them (thanks pothole!)

Keep in mind though it's more of a sub brand for the pattern, there are quite a few variants.

There are the Cross Climate 2 / SUV:

And then there are the Camping and Agilis Cross Climates:

I use the former type that has a road tyre like shoulder, the Camping and Agilis have a chunkier more 4x4 square shoulder.

I suspect this might be why there are variations in how people find these in winter conditions as I'd expect the square shoulder versions to have the edge and maybe in the "get out of the field" use too.

Anything like this?
