MOT failed - shock absorber - BILSTEIN - do I need a like-for-like?

Hey all,

I have a Transporter T28 and it just failed it's MOT due to a split shock absorber.

It looks like it has a Billstein F4-221-96712-bo fitted.

I have two options

1) Source a F4-221-96712-bo and ask the garage to fit.
2) Get the garage to replace both front shock absorbers.

Price wise, looks about the same.

I've seen some posts suggesting the Billstein F4-221-96712-bo isn't designed to hold the weight of a converted campervan.

Any thoughts / suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
