Need some clever people - Engine management light & dynamic control module

Ok so this is a bit of an odd one. We have a 22 plate T6.1 with just over 9.5k miles on it. Today we had been out in the car, pulled into our street and stopped the engine. We unloaded the back of the car and when I started the engine again to move it onto the drive the engine management light came on.

I looked in the manual and as it wasn’t clear if I could drive it to the dealer or not so I called the RAC. They came out and plugged their diagnostics tool in. Initially it couldn’t connect to the car. The chap pulled it out and plugged it back in again and it then worked but the engine management light had gone out. He hadn’t cleared the code, he could because it didn’t connect.

He said that it was showing an error code had been recorded against the dynamic control module. I took it for a quick drive and the car ran fine and the engine management light is still off.

please can someone help me out here as these just seems a little strange.

Ok so it drive 12 miles to work today and no light. Come out of work start the engine to drive home and engine management light is on again.

Call VW commercial assist and ask for a silver van to come out. That's what the warranty and the recovery is for.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately we have to go through the RAC as its a Motability car. yes it will be covered by the warranty but I was just hoping someone could give me an idea what the problem is. The dealership is initially suggesting they can look at it after Christmas FFS

It’s booked in at the dealers. I have VAG com but am aware from Motability that I am not allowed to plug it in, not even to read a code that would save having to call out the RAC to do.

It’s mad but that’s the Motability rules.

They could never tell unless you told them.

Ok so it is in the garage today, they have confirmed that it needs a STR reductant pump (I take it this is the Adblue pump?). Apparently this is on back order with no dates available for it. I think she said the part number is Vw 5wa531971.

Currently we are now stuck as we both use powered wheelchairs and so can’t go anywhere without this van. Motability as usual have nothing available via their ‘partner companies’ that they can give us.

Anyone on here work in VW parts who has a clue about availability of such parts?

thanks

The part number is indeed for the AdBlue pump - for newer series of T6.1 engines (engine codes DNAA, DNAB, DMZA, etc.).

However, interestingly the actual control unit has been superseded...

Add blue pump replaced and the van was collected yesterday. it all seems to be working ok at the moment. they have topped the add blue tank up again and that is now saying 10,500 miles range.

Sorry it wouldn't stop me, they can only find out if you tell them. Or go to a German specialist service center for a second appinion, I use these.
