Newbie switching from a Defender 110 ...

Hiya folks,
I've been stalking you lot for a few weeks now and thought I'd better show my face.
I'm on the path from switching from my 110 USW and getting into a T6 pop top.
Loving the outdoors and admit that I love any widget and gadget going ... so reckon I'm going to be OK here :)
As I get older I'm going to treat myself to some 'indoor' space, hence the pop top route.
Here's my rig at the moment ...

I'm going the other way, looking to trade my 66 plate T6 kombi for a defender 110 csw :0)

Those defenders look cool as funk but cant help feeling they are awful as a daily driver.

Just my opinion @Mick . Smith 2 but having not long sold a 110 X's defender ,my t6 is far superior, that little back door on the defender was the bain of my life, oh and the turning circle, 19mpg and land rover still using equipment from 20 year old vehicles , saying that I did feel I owned the car road

I've had two 90's and this 110. went this evening at 6pm i'm really sad :-( Cool trucks but this 110 was doing 50miles per £10. As a recreational vehicle i couldn't sustain the $$ to get to my outdoorsy bits. Had two types of roof top tents, but felt more like a roost in crap weather. I still 'need' to visit Snowdonia, but as i'm getting older I need to stand up to put my pants on ;-)
I'm going to the show on friday, with cash on the hip, the first T6 with a SCA194 roof i'm buying ...

Thanks for sharing your bedside routine @ti-fat-man ,I feel the same nowadays!! It was a no brainer for me, 50 mile trip to work everyday soon made me realise I might as well have set fire to my wallet everyweek !! But it was time to move on and I have no regrets.

I'm carless tonight. Borrowing my sons Clio (going to remove the magnetic P plates first!) and I am camping at the Newland Meadow, Malvern campsite for this weekend.
I was too late to get event camping.
Boy do I feel a reality 'bear grylls' weekend coming, digging out of my lads motor and kipping in a two man ground tent :).
Is there likey to be a secure area to lock a Brompton? or should I get a taxi to the show from the campsite, and neck a few beers.
Told my wife its a research recky ...

I've got a 2014 110 XS that I've had from new - it is my "daily driver" but, that said, it's still got less than 20k miles on the clock and, since having the T6, I am using it less and less.

I love the Defender - it's the first car I've owned where the actual MPG matches what the brochure told me I'd get, i.e. circa 25. It's noisy, bouncy, clunky, very expensive to service, has a worse turning circle than an oil tanker, and, at times, totally impractical yet I still love it.

Over the last year or so, since having my T6, I have considered selling it but know that if I do I'll instantly regret it - there are times when having 7 seats (rather than the 4 my T6 and Jo's car give us) is useful and, you never know, we might get some snow during our annual Christmas trip to the Lake District :)

Buying the Defender was a long held dream for me and a present to myself when I finished work - in some ways I was rebelling - my last 2 company cars were a Prius and a Lexus hybrid (neither of which got close to their advertised MPG).

For now I will keep it but I am definitely seeing it less and less as the long term vehicle I thought it would be and expecting to keep for ever. The good news is the residual values are very high and forecast to go up so keeping it a bit longer may also make financial sense.

Good luck with your new Defender - you'll love and hate it in equal measures:)

In regards to your Brompton there are plenty of posts and things to lock it up to but no designated bike racks that I can think of. Malvern is pretty hilly so if your an outdoor chap check an OS map for contour lines before committing to the Brompton.
