Oh no what damage have I done??

So I've had this lovely T6 for a year now while I've been converting it. Today I was looking in box under passenger seat I found a small cover that obviously belongs on the battery negative terminal well on this cover it shows a symbol of crocodile clip with red so that means don't connect battery charger neg clip to battery post I imagine well every 3 weeks for the last year I've done exactly that.so What damage have I done???

With a low amp charger - none

If you tried to jump start the van (high amps), then you'll melt the cable.

Phew that's good news I've just been using a little ctek 5amp charger so no damage then!

its so you dont by pass the battery shunt that monitors the power in / out the battery. ( its bolted to the NEG battery post)

no damage, but the power management reading for the battery will be out of wack.

So in future I will connect neg battery charger clip to engine.

Yes connect it to some metalwork on the engine or chassis and the van will register whatever charge goes into the battery
