Fogstar Drift 12v 230Ah Seatbase battery -- "How I Done It" --

makes sence,. . but i cant see a washer in the pics?

wonder if they use a nylon washer as an insulator?

they use them in there new 500A busbar unit.

looking at the Renogy. . .

looks like they come with INSULATING SLEVES.

this may work - M8 Nylon washer?

I'll be ordering one of these once I get the battery

Annoyingly the fuses on that one say do not use directly on the battery terminal, where this fuse can (with the isolation washer)

Need to wait and see if the blue sea MRBF fuse block will fit upside down.

And yeah the Renogy distribution box uses those isolation washers.

The Blue Sea block has an insulated stud instead of an insulating washer.

So you know when something is much bigger in real life than it looks in pictures...

I hadn't quite anticipated just how hoofin huge a megafuse holder is!!

Definitely going to need to try and get the terminal fuse fitted somehow. o_O

yeh. . .;

that why i used MEGA only for the MAIN

and MIDI for the SUB MAIN,

then ATC Blade fuse for the small.

this is a nice pic that shows them together. . .

MEGA is twice the size of the MIDI.

So in my system it's the main system fuse that I'm going to be speccing at 300a ( ) which is too big for a midi fuse.

The inverter fuse (either the Renogy 2000w or Victron 12/1200va) will be 250a (in the mega slot on that distribution block) and so 275a main fuse is the minimum really.

That's a mega/midi holder from simply split charge.

On the plus side, the Ablemail AMT12-2 is much smaller that I thought it would be!!

nice. . .

use decent cable on those AMT units. . . the paperwork says use 1.5mm cable which i did at first,

but had issues with it not charging ( no on the BUS, but the VAN when i fitted on a few years ago)

i swapped out the cable for 2.5mm and run more direct feeds and it works a charm.

its only supposed to be 3A trickle charger, but it can go up to 9A,. . . so wire it for a 15A feed and it works great.

++++++++++

you can clearly see the effect here on the BUS from yesterday. . . from when i fitted it.

previously the starter battery would gradually drop in voltage over time,

Yellow - starter drops below 12.2v

Green - starter stays above 12.3v

Nice, you haven't got solar on yours yet, have you? So that's feeding directly from the battery?

no solar on the van, but i do have a 160w panel for it, but ill wait till i get a poptop fitted.

in the meantime we just use mobile solar - which works fine.

when i do fit it, it will be the 160w panel + any mobile into a Victron MPPT feeding into the MIDI SUB main fuse panel.

.................

so in the current setup its:

50A Orion DC-DC from the engine,

charges the 230ah ROAMER Lifepo4

then AMT12-2 reverse trickle charge starter for extended off grid stays.

The Mobile EcoFlow Delta2 for any EHU as needed. (trickle charged via the SB50 50A flylead from the SUB MAIN fuse box from the SB230ah)

200-400W Mobile Solar via Victron MPPT connected via the second SB50 50A flylead from the SUB MAIN fuse box to the SB230ah)

Don't forget to check the ground stud under the the drivers seat base flooring.

I had to cut mine off to fit that battery .... So it sat flat on the floor.

Without removing it, the battery was sitting on the dome nut near the front. Which is not good....

Nice...

About time you started your own build thread for your van?... Looks like a nice system going in.

Welcome to #Team_GX

.
*Cough all in here mate, full build - kitchen, bikes, bed, and now electrics.

Nice. You should add that link to your signature.

Back in the van....

So thought I would show the Orion XS settings I'm running with the Fogstar. Day to day I current-limit it to 30A from the full 50A.

Using the auto engine detection.

...

Start. 13.10v

Delayed start 13.05v

Off 12.99v

....

@Dellmassive any reason why you've kept low temp cut off on in the Orion XS settings? Surely this will prevent the heater from kicking in on the Fogstar?

1000008357.png

And in other news, I contacted Fogstar about the ETA for these and was told they're now in stock and my preorder should be going out, very, very soon...
