Park4Night

My wife swears by it, whereas I swear at it...
Just remember a lot of the stops are roadside and car parks, check the most recent reviews as a lot are out of date (more car parks in Scotland showing no overnights as I've recently discovered, especially near houses). Always have a back up plan, plus another and another and aim to get there early to ensure a spot.

We’ve found some great sites and some duds... lots of further restrictions have been recently introduced in Scotland due to the plague of dirty campers, so best to have options as mentioned above

Found some good places using this that i would never have found. However, with the popularity with the use of the app, a lot of people end up turning up to these spots and been at a few overcrowded areas. But better than nothing. :)

Much the same in Cornwall, too much disregard for others is causing issues
I'm not defending "Dirty Campers" in any way, shape or form, I hate litter with a vengeance. BUT, when you have tourist boards & RDA's promoting areas to attract tourism, (think NC500) then are too short sighted to put the infrastructure in place to support their grand ideas, then you end up with this situation. The Camping in the Forest site at Glenmore in Aviemore is a classic example, they (the site owners The CCC) have arbitrarily decided not to open for the rest of the year, god knows why. Consequently the place is inundated with sh1t, literally. You can't cage people up for six months, then suddenly set them free without putting measures in place to accommodate them & their needs.
Rant over, I'll get me coat.

yep some camper van parking spots with water and toilets would solve a lot of problems ,again Pembrokeshire needs this .I guess a bit like the french camping spots

I recently did the NC500 and talking to some of the locals there was a lot of pissed off people.

I stopped off at the Lake District on the way home. Could not believe how busy it was! Could not go anywhere and driving past the towns there were people queuing half way down the road for the shop and overflowing pubs. No wonder the North is getting locked down again in places.

Agree. It's about time this country got a grip. We need people to stay here and spend money rather than go abroad. Put the infrastructure in place to allow this.

I still can’t understand the mentality of people who ‘wild’ camp where there are loads of other people. It’s then just a really basic campsite. Surely the point is to get away from people and if you can’t because there are too many people then you may as well be in campsite.

and don’t get me started on people littering in the places they go to get back to nature and away from the urban jungle!!!

But is the infrastructure that’s in place not the network of campsites? Maybe they need more (or they need to open the ones that there are) I guess

I think a lot of people wild camp to save money rather than to really wild camp ?
The price of a camp site for the night pays for a days food etc. Although obvious abuse ie mess and litter just passes this cost onto the Local Council. So as always the abusers stop the option for everyone else. More smaller campsites with basic facilities offering say £10 an night would deffo help.

I wild camped for the first time this year in Scotland. I enjoyed being able to stay overnight away from others and it being free is a bonus! We were very selective of where we stopped and took a few stops before finding a good spot away from others, houses etc. We had bin bags and took all our rubbish with us and even did a bit of a rubbish sweep around the area we were at to leave it better than we found it and just respected the land in general. We planned our toilet stops and had enough to be self-sustainable and it was great.

As said above about camping near others, when we went to areas that were packed we left. I don't want to be sitting on top of people. It's like the old classic beach scenario, you put your towel down and find a space away from everyone else. The whole beach is free but someone comes and sits right next to you.
