Ply floor and insulation installation

Thread resurrection - sorry...

I'm just preparing to carry out floor insulation and lining in my van so this is all good info. I'll do as @Superowls and packer with 9mm and silent coat all the gaps.

Just looking at those packer kits and the price is way up - now £45 +VAT for a kit, and they're on back order. It would be interesting to know the total area of ply needed - since an 8x4 sheet is £24 from B&Q (and that's going to be way more than needed).

My plan is - 9mm ply packers - 2mm silent coat on the remaining exposed metal - 9mm ply floor (since I've already got) - and Altro floor on the top.

Hopefully a Kombi step covers that?
Sounds like a plan.
My Kombi step & rear threshold fitted straight over no probs

If you're happy cutting up the ply then you might as well do it yourself and save a few quid
I did mine in October so didn't fancy a day on the drive measuring, cutting & sweeping up so was happy to pay the extra for the convenience

Just weight them down overnight after you've stuck them to make sure you've got a solid base to screw the ply floor to

If I put down silentcoat everywhere on the floor and over that the 12mm ply board why not just attach the whole thing with the six mounting points for the brackets? Why even bother with the battons and sika?

i fixed my ply down with counter sunk machine screws using the tie down fixing points. You will still need 9mm ply Packers though as the ribs on the floor aren't all level

Hi I'm interested to know how you got on as I'm at the same stage.

I've 9mm batons with dodo deadn hex over the metal floor. I plan to put the 9mm floor that came in van back down.

Did you use insulation and how did you attach ply to batons adhesive or screws?

I have an altro liner to go on top of ply. I have enough thermal acoustic foam left over to cover floor but worried it might raise floor too much for the combi step.

I like this idea. I appreciate it was a long time ago, but can you remember what length screws you used?

IMO insulating the floor could cause issues with retained moisture, it’s the lowest point so any condensation elsewhere may find it’s way down and any spills or leaks could end up under the floor. Water in that area could result in delaminated plywood and possible floor replacement.
I have 2mm silent coat, ply and Altro floor, the Altro surface is cold in winter even with a Diesel heater but I’m not sat in the van with my bare feet on the floor.
How easy was it glueing the altro to the ply?
